There are few things in this world better than good olive oil....but olives? Ugh, not for me. Can't stand the taste.

I make a Jerk Turkey soup in the slow cooker.....let me see if I can remember the recipe...

Alright you'll want to take

- A pound of turkey breast (More if you're the very peckish type)
- 1 can of diced tomatoes (I get the kind with chilli's for extra kick)
- 1 can of black beans
- 2 cups of chicken stock
- 1 chopped onion.
- 1 large garlic clove. (minced)
-A generous squeeze of lime juice

Spices:
-Ground ginger (1/2 tsp)
-Cayenne pepper (1/4 tsp)
-Garlic salt (1/2 tsp)
-Ground allspice (1/4 tsp)
-black pepper
-Salt

Instructions:
Bung the turkey into a bowl and knead the spices into it.
Put everything else in.
Cook for 6 or 7 hours on low
Salivate for 6 or 7 hours.
Eat.

my girlfriend's mum has one, but she only uses it for cooking gammon joints to the point where the only quantifiable difference between the gammon and the air surrounding it is the colour...

I'm sure that when used properly they're magical, but my experience to this point has not been a positive one.

Put some marinated cubed beef , in a red wine and garlic etc over night

Put beef and stock in the cooker with carrots, onions mushrooms potatoes and turnips, add a oxo cube or two and a beef stock sachet

Cook for six or so hours till beef cubes are falling apart. Serve with some peas or something

Yummy

something I do with my oven based slow cooker is to make meatballs for spaghetti with napolitana sauce. firstly I make my balls -secret stuff- and then I leave them to sit. I fire up the oven and prepare the slow cooker. Then I make the tomato sauce to my taste and do the following: I place the balls in the slow cooker and completely cover them in the sauce, then I chuck it in the oven for a couple hours. The sauce soaks in to the balls somewhat but they don't get over-done because they are completely covered. Additionally, the extra sauce gets the added value of being slow-cooked a bit, which makes its consistancy a bit more yummy (imo).

Pack of cheap caserole beef from a supermarket 500g
Tin of coconut milk
Brown Sugar
Fish oil (the proper fish oil from the oriental section of supermarket)
Thai Red Curry paste
Lemongrass
Galengaal (sp)
100ml beef stock

Fry off the paste for 2 minutes, add the beef and brown it. Add the stock, Milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 2 teaspoons of fish oil and some fresh lemongrass. Stir then transfer to slow cooker. Add the galengaal (dont forget to take this out when cooked). Cook for about 4 hours on slow. Add some green beans (or whatever veg you want). Cook for another hour then you are done. A lush, simple thai red curry that is as tasty as any restaurant

There is nothing wrong with slow cooking in the oven. I've been doing it for years *fluffles TdC*. However I would just like to be able to switch something on in the morning pre work and it to be cooked when I get home :)!

I thought the whole point of the slow cooker is that it uses the power of a light bulb, so it can be left on all day bubbling away and not cost much. if you need to put it in the oven (mine's electric) surely it would cost a fortune to leave the oven on all day?
