After I got all my parts from OCUK and was still getting the same error, I put the machine down and didnt touch for a week just to calm myself down. During this time I learnt that it could be the powersupply as someone else had a simular problem with an Epox mobo. The currnt was a 340W and was recommened to go for higher, so I went and got a 550W. After I jammed this in it worked.

I forgot to say thanks to that man as he came and left IRC and was never seen again. But I do remember his name from the forum (If its the same person :| )...

A BIG THANK YOU TO CAMAZOTZ

:D :D :D

I also posted here in hope that they might be useful, they certainly was not. :/

I also mailed Epox with them being as useful as a one footed footballer.

legend : i will *never* recommend anyone purchases from ebuyer.
I've spent what must be nearly 25k on there, started out ok, so i used them more (some of their stuff is cheaper than my trade prices) : but stuff slowly got worse. At first you dont think much of it : no supplier has never sent out a faulty item : but when it got worse and more consistent, i felt obliged to use the words "off" and "fuck" in a different order down the phone. They are shit, you get what you pay for : not just in the product, in the service too.

It seems a lot of places are utter wang these days. Personally never had any problems with OcUK, but there are many who have. As for CCM, I seem to recall them being run by some kid out of his bedroom a year or so back, looks like they haven't moved on.

Recently, the two best companies I've dealt with have been Komplett and Novatech. Komplett managed to ship me a PIII overnight from Norway and Novatech saved me from a LAN without diskspace earlier in the year, after dabs fucked up I ordered a spangly disk from Novatech at ~5pm, it arrived bright and early the next morning just as I was going to my LAN.

Crucial are also excellent, both speed of delivery and customer service. Shame they only do memory :)

this thread couldn't really have come at a better time... i was considering buying one of them OC-UK ultima systems.. ya know ready built top spec job... as i wanted almost everything in my pc upgraded.. it seemed to make sense...

a rl mate of mine had probs with them but i just wrote it off cos he's a bit of a fucktard himself, but now, well...

thing is when i contemplated bringing a TFT display into the buying equation it seems that buying a whole new pc IS the cheapest and best way to do it - especially when you consider that most companies let you specify which parts you want for the main components (i mean who cares whether it's a teac or a sony floppy drive... as long as ya can pick ya gfx card...)

so anyway. what have i bought in the past? when the athlon 600 first came out, i had a new advent... contrary to popular opinion that was the dogs danglies... my latest pc is an evesham... again quality, and gets good reviews everywhere mostly.

dell can indeed be quality... but don't underestimate the lemon factor involved in their cheaper pc's.... and if you want a good spec one it does cost the EARTH :/

if money's no object - go for Armari :p

all this said, my pc upgrades have been abandoned for a while, i need a mac :/

cough.

i was thinking more about the fully functioning unix BSD jobby, the rather luscious 17" widescreen panel to work on, the dvd writer, MS office, macromedia web studio MX, all things adobe, IE, all my instant messengers...

so it doesn't play games... problem? no, i have 2 pc's and 8-9 assorted consoles (i lose count these days).

why student anyway?

Because these are the only two people that use macs :)

Now I got my old machine im trying to bung FreeBSD on it or a linux distro but the missus keeps saying shes selling it as we dont have the room (which we dont). I wanna keep it though as tbh that machine is only a little slower than my new one. P3 700Mhz to a 1666Mhz you would have though would be much faster. Ah well need new graphics card now as 10xx on 3Dmark is not impressive :/

I have a mac :eek6:

its one of those REALLY old 1994 ones, the largish ones with the external SCSI drive and the 9" monitor-in-the-top-part or something ( i cant remember, but it pre-dated the classic model)

the NEELB (north east Education and Library Board, one of the northern ireland school systems) were getting rid of a couple of systems and i came across one years ago, decided to snap it up for £10.

of course it never worked, so it became the door stop for the office i worked in :D when I left the company I carried it out with me and it went into the garage.

it was because of using those very machines at school made me hate mac's since.
as well as the fact that you cant play any decent games on them

im much happier with a PC, at least when they brake you dont need a "specialist" to come out and fiddle with it :)

Is that just because with a PC you accept that you have to reinstall the OS when it breaks?

Im just not a mac fan. Unless your doing graphic designs there aint much point in using them. The ability to switch networks is a great feature though :)

erm not much point

which bit of the aforementioned unix jobby did you not get?

i never got suse working on my laptop, it's a pile of fucking shit, i strongly suspect that other distro's are gonna be pretty equally shit, hence i'm perfectly happy to use my imac, which runs a fully windows compatible version of office, has one of the best music playing apps there is (iTunes 3), and generally does all other tasks like email, web browsing, chat clients...

mac hating is now totally irrational...
if it was classic mac os' you were talking about i wouldn't say anything... but mac os X = fucking awesome.

also, do you have any idea how pleasant it is to work with a V high quality 17" widescreen TFT??

You keep bears in your fridge?
