SI performance on various graphics cards...

I have tested SI on 4 different configurations:

1) Athlon XP1700 1.49 GHz, 512 MB DDR, GeForce 4 MX 64MB

2) Athlon XP1700 1.49 GHz, 256 MB SDR, GeForce 2 Ultra 64 MB

3) Athlon XP1700 1.49 GHz, 512 MB DDR, GeForce 3 Ti200

4) Athlon XP1800 1.55 GHz, 1 GB DDR, GeForce 4 Ti4200

System 1 and 2 does not have the new water effect/shadows.
System 3 and 4 have the new water effect/shadows.

I checked the framerate, and I did not see any major difference in any of the 4 configurations. Of course the faster graphics cards have a better framerate, but IMO it's not that big a difference.

So to sum it up:
The game is very much playable on any of the four configurations. If you want the nice effects, you'll have to invest in a GF3 or above (not MX version), but the game will run nicely with GF 2 or GF4 MX. There has been some optimization done to the graphics engine, which will show when a large amount of players are present on screen, but in normal play you will not see a big decrease in performance.

This is my personal opinion, based on the tests I've made. I made this thread to try calming those people down that fear that they need an uber-fast system for SI to be playable.

Edit:
Here is what Mythic has written about some graphics cards:

http://support.darkageofcamelot.com...W55fiZwX3NvcnRfYnk9ZGZsdCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=

A benchmark test from Tom's Hardware might give you an idea about where your gfx card is compared to others...

PLEASE! This is not the Ultimate Answer! The performance will vary on each individual system. All I can say though is, that if you are satisfied with the performance of your current system, it will probably pull through with SI. Only major concern is the new effects - if you have a non-effect gfx card, and can live with your current framerate, my bet is that it'll run just as nicely in SI.

re the optimizations for large numbers of people on screen..
with how many, if any, is the game still playable with say 100+ people in the near vicinity? (eg. on a relic raid)
By playable, I mean at least 10 fps.

I have NO idea!

I am running on an almost empty server, so I don't have a clue. I can only refer to what I have read on the Camelot Herald.

I have been playing SI on an old P3 500, 256MB, GeForce2 MX400. It's playable, although I do get some gfx bugs at times. I have found that I don't have to relog ... moving to a different area seems to get rid of them.

Personally, I just bought a Geforce 3 Ti200. This serves my playng needs fine. NEVER buy MX versions of anything - they are crap - my GF2 Ultra benchmarks 8% less than a GF4 MX.

I know of a couple of people who have the new GeForce FX on order. Personally, I think that's a severe case of overkill if the most you will be doing is playing DAoC or other MMO games, If you are going to be doing cinematic/video work, then it's a good card to get. I'm sick of people saying they are getting the latest card, just "because it's the best".

If you want a GREAT gfx card at a low cost get an Albatron GeForce4 Ti4200P Turbo 128MB, I have this card and its AMAZING ive clocked it to just over Ti4600 standards with no problems at all. And at nearly half the price of a Ti4600 what have ya got to loose?
Anyways heres the site where I bought mine.

Albatron ROCKS!
