Another great Move in the history of Goa and Mythtic messing around with their Community .... no1 delivers patch files just in time.... and no1 finishes a release of a new expansion on the last day..... those patch files should have been sent like 2 weeks ago for propper testing (wonder what GOA tested there this time ).

We are now facing two options :


First, we can follow the plan, hoping that Mythic will be able to send us the needed files this afternoon (around 3 pm GMT with the time zone difference). This would allow us to open the production servers with Shrouded Isles this evening.
The second option is to cancel the current procedure and switch the servers back to 1.54 today and wait for the missing files knowing that in this case, Shrouded will not be released today.

We picked the first solution and decided to stick to the plan. Our teams are ready to work late in the night if needed to open the servers with Shrouded Isles and the patch 1.57.

Of course, we will keep you informed throughout the day.

I just hope next time the servers come back alive, they haven't decided to back down to 1.54 after all... AND that they really do keep us informed throughout the day, as promised.

GOA were supposed to get the files on Monday. They didn't... but they decided to take all the servers down and start patching despite not having all the files needed?

Anyone else think this is kind of dumb?

Well, that would seem the most logical thing to do (to me at least).

If you cant update the servers because you simple DO NOT HAVE THE FILES YOU NEED, at least then let the server run on the old version... No reason to keep them down actually, just waste of time - and pissing off a lot of people.

They say they have to wait till 3PM - What I dont understand is why they started the patching procedure in the first place.

as for starting the patch with some files missing, thats basicly standard practice on big enviroments as these, few last minute bug fixes missing, start patching and hope the dev teams get em to ya in time. seen and done it a few time

Well imho GOA couldn't have done it good both anyways cause if they had deceided to delay the patching u ppl would have been pissed off and when they deceided to go according schedule and hope the last files would make it on time (like they did) u are pissed off too.

Now im not saying it's ok this happened but u can atleast be glad they keep us informed about it and are honest to us. I know a lot of companies like several ISP's don't bother to inform people at all when their servers go down for a certain amount of time or their connection gets very slow "for some reason".

For a game that's running 24/7 i think they have a very high uptime and beeing a system engineer myself i know maintenance/updating/keeping the whole bunch up and running isn't as easy as it seems especially when u want to keep it up every hour every single day.

So go out, enjoy the weather instead of whining. SI will come eventually anyway and since not every EU country was about to release the game at the same time i hope they won't patch for two days so everyone can enjoy SI at the same time.

Can't help but to wonder if you are working for GOA...

No matter how common this sort of behavior is, it's no excuse. Customers will rightly get pissed when poor planning and shoot-from-the-hip mentality causes problems like this.

As for a life outside of DAOC. Why ?

Well if the Dev team is actually there physically working on getting you the software, and there are people you can phone up and shout at - maybe I would go with that, but you are seriously risking your neck.

Doing that sort of thing when you have no idea if the dev team can even make it past the end of their drives because of major bliazards and bad weather. And the power / net connection maybe out - well thats taking the risk just a little bit too far in my book

Just be honest about it all - Customers like honesty. They could have told everyone Monday about the weather situation and that SI might be dealyed, and I doubt there would be the mass of complaints here.
