Just about all of Saving Private Ryan.

Thinking about what they had to go through, its just terrible.

And an old film Called "Dont Be Afraid of the Dark" absolutely scared me shitless.

The Ring was scary to, when she came out the telly at the end... fek me.

Gladiator made me shiver alot....the music, rousing war cries.

The bits where he's in Elysium is pretty darned good as well.

Just....the music, and the images throughout the film of him going through the grass and finally reaching the door.

And i have to agree with durzel on the Tannhauser gate bit in Bladerunner. vangelis musical genius combined with ridley's directing skills made that one for me

Minority report had a few shivery bits.

Just "realization" and "sheer grand scope of things" make shivery moments for me.

You're right. But.....

It's all very well watching, important ,meaningful, beautifully acted movies but for when you want a bit of a dumb tits and gore fest he's not bad.

Nah verhoeven tries FAR too hard to be offensively violent. It's laughable really.

“People see me, and they see the suit, and they go: “you’re not fooling anyone”, they know I’m rock and roll through and through. But you know that old thing, live fast, die young? Not my way. Live fast, sure, live too bloody fast sometimes, but die young? Die old. That’s the way- not orthodox, I don’t live by “the rules” you know. And if there’s one other person who’s influenced me in that way I think, someone who is a maverick, someone who does that to the system, then, it’s Ian Botham. Because Beefy will happily say “that’s what I think of your selection policy, yes I’ve hit the odd copper, yes I’ve enjoyed the old dooby, but will you piss off and leave me alone, I’m walking to John O’Groats for some spastics.”.”

This should be in the old film quote thread but I certainly aint gonna revive it. Watched this film again last night and some of the lines in it are excellent....

"You gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?"

"I didn't surrender, but they took my horse and made him surrender. They have him pulling a wagon up in Kansas I bet."

"You a bounty hunter?
Bounty Hunter: A man has to do something these days to earn a living.
Dyin' ain't much of a living boy!"

"You can't kill 'em all, *****!
***** *****That's a fact.
Jamie: Then why are you doing this?
***** *****: Because I ain't got nothin' better to do, kid."

I see your point, but Total Recall, Robocop and Starship Troopers were all brilliant films. As a result, I get the impression he knows how to make a film or two.

Agreed. (for a change :)) Although I'd say "brilliant" is a little too strong. They're all great throwaway cheese-o-matic films, but they're not Shawshank Redemption "brilliant".

Just my £0.02
