Well - I'm still here, I'm pleased to say. I have a single bad bit around my heart where an artery is closed by about 85%, but the good old NHS is gonna whack a stent in there for me and all will be hokey dokey!

I have some pics of the bad bit from the x-rays which I'll scan and post up when I get around to it. Thanks to you all for your well wishes

It's interesting for me to read what you're going through as chances are I'll be in the same position in 5 years time when I'm 41.

Dad had an inferior infarction at 52 and my grandad had a massive MI when he was 57. Combined with high LDL/TG/cholesterol and now slowly increasing BP, I'm a prime candidate for an MI in years to come. My GP won't do jack about it because they plug my figures into a program and it says I am a low risk of cardiac disease in the next 10 years. On that basis they won't even prescribe me statins to TRY and reduce my risk. Fucktards

Statins, ACE inhibitors and aspirin are cheap as anything and using them prophylactically has been shown to delay the onset of serious circulatory disease. All I ask is to be put on them early. :)

Before someone says "change GP", I'm stuck with the practice I'm at and I can't afford to go private.

Use it to your advantage. If they say you are at low risk, take out some life/health insurance to cover this eventuality.

If only I had the disposable income for this.
Finances are being squeezed so tight that I'm having to make serious cutbacks.

Oh well at least you know now. Not a lot I can say about the result really. Good in one way but I suppose bad in another. It should all work out fine though by the sounds of it :).

The Welsh Assembly have made prescriptions free of charge for the last couple of years so it makes more sense to get these things on prescription rather than over the counter.
You're right though, you can buy Zocor Heart Pro (simvastatin) over the counter, but it's not as strong as the ones on prescription.

Damn that artery sure has collapsed. Did they say why it had done so?

I neglected to say this, actually. This was done under the NHS at Frimley Park Hospital and I swear they were the very epitomy of first class excellence in every way!!!!

They called today - stent procedure is booked for July 3rd, so pretty quick, yes :)

good stuff...the service for anything cardiac related has massivly improved recently, as part of a huge push to decrease the amount of cardic related long stay patients and deaths...its a huge drain on the NHS, so they are now opting for preventative measures, and sorting problems before they happen! (thats not to say you're a drain on the NHS Jup, just the population in general!)
Glad to see you're getting it sorted quick....if you have any questions or worries, feel free to ask x x

Well - that was exciting :)

Stent is in, and has been now for about 48 hours with no signs of any chest pain so far - in fact I feel great ! It was a bit scary on the table watching the doctors position the catheter and then it foookin' 'urt when they inflated a balloon in the artery to expand it out ready for the stent, but after that the stent went in quite quickly, it seemed. It's a little wire mesh cylinder which is pushed into the walls of the now expanded again artery, and I could actually see it whilst still under the x-ray machine.

When you look at the before and after, and take on board the doctor saying this was actually a 90% lesion, i.e this artery was 90% closed, and then consider the acuteness and sudden arrival of the chest pains I had been having, I begin to think maybe I've had a very lucky escape.

I'm off the cigs, have been since Thursday, and I'm confident of staying off them now ... well as best I can be :(

Anyway - enough waffle - the gory pics :)

Guildportal did some kind of internal move, we didn't change anything. If you just browse to Ancient Shadows : Home : ClanGroups Guild Powered by GuildPortal? Guild Hosting you'll get there fine, you just need to save it to favourites again.

It caused a few problems when it first happened, I was slightly miffed with Guildportal but since the issues we have had are few and far between I didn't bother to harass them about it :)

Friend of mine had it done on 3rd June, was told not to do anything for a coulpe of weeks after, and he had a couple of 'feeling a bit rough' days (his words) for a few days afterwards, (he's 65) but its been a month now and he said it has given him a new lease of life, he also has stopped smoking because of it. He said it was the best deterent he had ever had to quit

He also had it done at Frimley and he said they were great too

I missed this thread as i was away at the time and only just read it, sorry

Glad your ok, take it easy

Ah bugger Jup, you first posted whilst I was on holiday and I missed it completely.

I used to be the radiographer for cardiacs angios, and have seen loads, but now only do the non cardiac stuff, not that I'd have said anything much different from the other guys here, they seemed to have it covered.

The stent looks great that really is a result, things have improved so much over the last few years, it really isn't long since you would have been looking down the barrel of a coronary artery bypass graft for that lesion, and you wouldn't have wanted one of those.

Keep off the ciggies though, you really don't want that to return at your age, and yes you look young from here too.

Glad it all went well.

Jup, those pics are awesome....and you can really see how brilliantly the stent worked, as the perfusion is so much better in the 2nd pic. Your ticker must be a happy bunny!
Glad you're ok dude and it wasn't too horrific x x

Good bit of plumbing that :)

The improvement in the 2nd picture is absolutely amazing - you could see in the first how barely any blood was getting past that point pre-stent but afterwards it looked great - impressive!
