Anyone been watching this? I think it's really good, clever and well filmed, so much better than that crap at the movies at the moment :)

Ive seen them all except the latest one, and I like the way they start but it all gets a bit boring and familiar by the end of the episode for me. Worth a watch though.

Really enjoy it, although I found last night's ep surprisingly...unsurprising, the who and the how were very easy to work out.

Another BBC drama fail that everyone is lapping up... no idea why.

That doesn't mean it's automatically good, most stuff on TV is utterly terrible. This is just poor instead. :)

The mind palace scene where he got all minority report was fucking shit. As was his constant "You're XYZ because of A,B,C" crap. It's like he's a performing magician. I enjoy the stories but the one last night was SO convoluted...how the fuck did they get into a ultra, top, mega secret bio warefare lab? Load of bollocks.

Really enjoying them all. I like the fact that it's a retelling of familiar Sherlock Holmes stories but in a modern setting and with additional twists. It's not trying to be the original (or remake the 80's Granada version with Jeremy Brett). The writings good and there's enough differences to the original stories (as well as nods to them - such as the line about the prisoner and then the flashing light on the moor in last night episode) to add to the enjoyment. Moffat's known for being a bit convoluted but that works in this series whereas it doesn't work so well with Doctor Who.

I admit some of the 'effects' by which I mean things like the 'Mind Palace' scene might not be to everyone's taste but I think they work to add to the scene rather than just looking at him thinking. There are, of course, a few flaws as few things are perfect. I don't believe they would get access to the lab with just his brothers stolen security card but it didn't deflect from my enjoyment of the episode.

Also like the nods to other stories in last weeks episode such as the Geek interpreter. It's worth looking up Watson's blog on the internet where there's more backstory on these other unfilmed stories.

I am annoyed that it is another series of 3 episodes and the next one is the Reichenbach falls episode which seems far too soon.

So you're complaining about Sherlock Holmes behaving like...Sherlock Holmes? Oookaaay....

Not at all. I enjoy it when used in moderation, but he whipped it out like a shit party trick constantly in last night's ep.

Ah no wonder it's so bad if Moffat's writing it.

Does the BBC use more than 3 writers, or do they just use the same ones on everything now?

Correct but given you've got 24 stories leading up to that (excluding Hound and the other standalones) having this be the 5th of those 24 limits what you can use for future series.

I was slightly mistaken. Moffat wrote the first episode of each season, Mark Gatiss wrote the other 2 of last season plus last nights and another guy Steve Thompson is writing the next one.

Lol Gatiss and Moffat. Spreading themselves pretty thinly. Point seems to stand, the BBC only use a few writers which is why so many of their drama shows are badly written and have the same "feel" to them.

I agree with Vae.
The "Mind Palace" thing was a touch far, a little too much like Gary on "Alphas".
I do however REALLY like the floating text markers and messages in various places. I also like the crazy speed observations. In last week's episode, there was a scene where he deduced a "code" in less than 8 seconds and then explained how it broke down in the next 30 seconds. Some of it is a stretch, like knowing the flight times of various flights to various destinations, but at the heart of it all it is in the spirit of Sherlock Holmes as Arthur Conan Doyle wrote it. And unlike some people, I've actually read the stories! I had a great big compendium of Sherlock Holmes given to me by my aunt when I was 12.

I do like what they've done updating the old stories into current settings. Sure, some of the sub-plots have to make way for the primary plot.
eg. the prisoner got a nod in last night's episode; Seldon got pages in the original story.
In the end, it brings Sherlock to a new generation and if some of them go read the books, then so much the better.

I've also read (some of) the books, and I like the way they have portrayed Sherlock a lot. I think he is very much like he is in the books and is brought up to date very well. However, it doesn't stop the tv show becoming predictable and repetitive, which of course the books aren't at all.

I read the original stories years ago when I were nowt but a lad, and I'm enjoying this series. Sure, it has its flaws and modicum of shark jumping at times, but overall it's an enjoyable way to spend 90 mins in front of the telly.

Which is a rare thing indeed these days, because the vast majority of the schedules nowadays is utter utter drivel and dross.

I tell you what, whoever put together the part of Moriaty (and the actor playing him), and the twists and turns he uses in tonights episode seriously deserves a medal.

one seriously devious bastard, and he's not finished yet :)

Shite lol
I really liked that until the end scene he either survived the fall using brain power or he found someone so identical it could fool his best friend. I hate shit like that and what every bullshit they come up with to explain it will just piss me off more

Or we were seeing it through Watson's post-concussed head bash and he thought he saw Sherlock, but Sherlock chucked the other body off.

Or something.

Probably not.

It really looked like him when you saw his dead body. Must have been the disguise that tricked the kids somehow. He made sure Watson didn't move when he was on the phone. He must have wanted Molly to ID the body as himself or something.

It's all got to be down to Molly... obviously not entirely sure how they're going to do it but mask + Moriarty's body and her IDing the body? Something like that? Also the bike hitting Watson wouldn't have been a coincidence...we saw it sneak up on him. And then there's the truck that pulled away when Sherlock 'fell'... and the girl IDing him. I know it's gonna be quite conveluted (sp?) but still, good episode I thought; I know the dying and coming back to life thing has been done to death (hurr) in other series but at least this felt quite tasteful :)

Yeah it will be a fake body ID'd by Molly. But Sherlock made Watson watch HIM jump. And it did not look like a dead body falling. So yeah the dead bosy will not be him but the fucker still jumped of a building in a zone where he did not have time to prepare.

Why are we spoilering this? If you haven't seen it don't click on threads about it. But for the stupid people.

There were more than enough clues to say Sherlock had figured it out and staged his death:
1) He said he was going to die
2) He asked for Molly's help
3) He picked the place on top of Barts Hospital
4) John's movements were heavily controlled before hand. It could have been Sherlock who made him think the Land Lady had been shot.
