lolololol im in so much shit at work when i go back in next.

Story:

As some of you may know, i work in farmfoods well we recently got a new Area Manager who destroyed the morale of the store where i work.

Shes pretty much changed the rules of which is shown in the book which farmfoods issues to suit her own needs.

Anyway, she dont like me, and since she has been around she aint liked me for whatever reasons. I put it down to my humour, she dont like it but everyone else dont mind it... oh well.

1) Our manager, whom i rate as a very good friend and an excellent manager, who i worked with since i started at farmfoods (like 9months ago) has just been transferred to another store. When he moved not so long ago our store suddenly stopped being "good". The standards dropped considerably.

Yesterday she called me into the back to give me a bollocking, but i got so pissed off i gave her it all back to her.

The argument went something like this:

<Her> I'm not impressed by your attitude and work rate as of late, im very disappointed.
<Me> Well, im sorry, you're giving me hours i dont want to do, i get set hours and i have to stay behind until something gets sorted, (Say i do 9-6, i have to stay until like 7 to fix everything up, and if i do a 7-4 i have to stay til 5ish, thus not leaving on time). Ive told people i want to do part time again, because i dont have the heart for fulltime hours (which are 35+hrs pw but you dont get paid anything extra after 40hrs).

<Her> Well, did you think of telling me your problems, instead of having a bad attitude.
<Me> Well erm? Hello, ive told everyone under the sun, the Manager, the Assistant Manager etc i have a problem, what is it? Does no one listen to me?
<Her> Well you're only gonna be doing 39hours this week, because you're covering for Andy (Whos on Holiday)
<Me> Erm? Ive been doing 39/40 hours a week for 2months, even when Andy was on holiday, stop lying?
<Her> Its because we're short staffed
<Me> The reason why you're short staffed is because we've lost 4 members of staff in 2months, and you havent replaced any of them, thats not my fault.

change topic

<Her> You're tills havent been good this week, why?
<Me> Well erm? im sorry, i wasnt told about this, maybe if staff communicated i could improve, so excuse me for not being told.
<Me> Speaking of tills, im sick of them, we have 3 tills in the store and only 1 out of the 3 has conveyer belts that works.
<Her> What do you mean "1 out of 3 work?"
<Me> Uh, till3 has a problem where the CB never stops, and till2 has a problem where it never goes.
<Her> Well whats wrong with just dragging the products across the CB?
<Me> How about i dont? Considering its bad health and saftey, you're putting unnessecary strain on your back when your stretching across a long CB and getting products.

<Change Topic>

<Her> Well if you dont like the tills, or putting out stock, what do you like doing?
<Me> Uh? I dont have a problem with working tills, and i dont mind putting out frozen stock, which is why i wanna do morning but HOHOHO im not allowed.
<Her> Oh and speaking of tills, ive told you not to till share, i gave you a letter of advice about that.
<Me> WTF?! Since you gave me that letter i havent till shared... get your facts right before you accuse (She didnt really like that)

<change topic>

<Her> I also believe you're gonna be leaving us before christmas, well?
<Me> Wow, rumours are rife in this place, but yeah, im not happy at this place anymore and the way its run now, so maybe at the start of december im gonna be leaving.

This was the best argument ive had, and it felt good... so funny was the fact that no one else stood upto her, she didnt give me a warning but today i kinda made a big booboo :D

I answered the phone and it was her, she asked for the Assistant Manager who was across from me but was in the cold store but couldnt hear me. So i cupped the mic in the phone with my hand (blocking the sound - so i thought) and shouted "HEY! The bitch is on the phone hurry up".

The assistant manager heard this and answers the phone, the problem is SO DID SHE :D fuck fuck fuck :D She told the AM to tell me that im now on Disciplinary for my actions, whooops :D. Im now public enemy number one in her eyes, but, in all the staff (and all the staffs family) shes public enemy number one.

I intend to leave as i say around the start of december, and have somethin like 4weeks off while they pay for me my Holiday hours in that time i wanna get my health sorted out. Start intensive training like boxing. The past few weeks ive had trouble breathing/chest pains but im just putting that down to the cold weather...

Considering the hours bit I have to say I am glad that in Holland they can only demand an half hour after your day has ended. After that you have to be paid an extra 50 %.
I am wondering if she how long she has been in charge of anything, from what I can gather her handling of that conversation aint good.

There was one thing i missed in the argument tho, which i didnt bring up. As i say, i do like 9+ hours a day at the moment, but we only get one 30minute break throughout the whole day.

Employees who work around 6/7 hours also get a 30minute break. I dont see it as fair at all, but im sure i brought this up a while ago on here.

Oh and heres another peach from last night. We had 4 shoplifters in last night in a gang, only 3 members of staff in - All young girls. They kept coming back and stealing more stuff, so the area manager come up with a bright idea - Lock the doors, if someone wants to get in, let them in then lock the door.

What she failed to relise was, what if one of the people let in was a lifter and was carrying a knife? The girls would have been fucked. One of the mums come in today and to be honest started crying infront of me, because the area manager put her daughter in harms way

Heres what you do SG:

She fancies you rotten, its obvious, but she's feeling guilty about it, thats why she's giving you a hard time.

Ask her why she's hiding her feelings for you, tell her to be honest with herself, and she'll be all over you. Then you get a promotion, and everyone is happy.

If you're leaving in a couple of weeks just behave and put up with the shit till then just to get a decent reference for future jobs. Much as you may love to piss her off towards the end of your time there because you think she deserves it, it would only count against you in any jobs you go for next, unless you don't count on using this place as a reference of course :)

Id just get a reference from my old manager, fuck her tbh ;).

I know what im doing is bad... i havent even told my parents i intend to leave, because im a bit worried theyre gonna be disappointed at me for giving up...

If I were you I would write to your area mangager telling him what is going on. Apart from the early tricking incident, you havent done too badly there and you got that award thingy , which should count in your favour. Tell him about the fact you are willing to be be flexible to an extent , but that you feel you are being taken advantage of and you are being asked to break h&s laws.

Thats if you still want to stay there. Otherwise just tell her to shove her job up her arse and walk out with dignity intact.*

*I cannot be held responsible if you take this course of action

I used to work in TKMaxx and we had this AMO (Assistant Manager of Operations) called Mitch and if you said her name right over the tannoy, you could get away with calling her bitch. Mwahaha, the fun we had. Not really related, but this thread reminded me of it. :)

Sounds like an identical problem to me, our nice manager who was a laugh just left (at Tesco), now we've got a right jobsworth ... "tuck in your shirt" "get a name badge" "do your top button up" .... wanker.

Yeah... even when im doing simple jobs like pushing trolleys my chest feels like its been whacked by a bus. Could be stress, but im not gonna really be telling anyone seen as tho they'll probably put me on Medication.

PS, Kam, it is my area manager who i had an arguement with, so would it be wise to write her a letter stating why i hate her so much? ;)

Don't worry about the reference, most places don't give official ones now anyway, for fear of you suiing if they say something negative about you. Best bet is to see your old manager and ask if he minds you giving his phone number to a future employer for a chat.

There are plenty more jobs out there so don't sweat it.

Retail is generally shit though, with minimum wage and crappy conditions. You're a young lad still, and this job has obviously upped your confidence loads, as borne out by the way you've stood up to that woman.

My advice, try and get on a junior office job or something like that, I doubt you'll earn any less and I'll bet you'll enjoy the job more.

Good Luck Gray, and don't let the bastards get you down.

If all else fails - join the military!

The Army are down 50% on last year and are in desperate need of bodies, I mean people.

The other services are always looking for people, may I suggest RAF :)

But seriously, if I were you I woulda left many many many months ago. Retail places always need people and their staff turnover is quite high, so it's not like you'd be out of employment for long.

Meh, it was ok. They're no worse than any other huge merkan company. I'd rather work for them than Asda/Walmart. I thought TKMaxx was fun at the time, but then I started working in a nightclub about 2 years ago, and any previous ideas of a fun job went right out the window. :)

Best thing to do is put it all down in writing what she does and how she has treated you. If all else fails take them to a tribunral and sue their asses for constructive dissmisal.

On a side note if you are interested in getting into shape pretty quick I can highly rec. a place in Warington which is not too far from Widnes. My Wifes Uncle runs a martial arts school. He has been teaching it for around 30 years now and he is the highest ranked Dan in europe. I've been going to Kung Fu now for nearly 3 months at one of his others schools in Irlam. It really puts you through your paces and you get a whole lot fitter for doing it. Let me know if you want the details

I rather enjoy working at Morrisons part time. Thankfully most of the managers there are nice people. Well, the only down side is the buggers in personal, they can really get on your case. >_>

If you can't complain to your area manager seeing as she is it, look up the ladder and find someone higher to complain to. ;-)

Dunno if it's a standard thing across America but last time I was there all the checkout people didn't have chairs like they do here, which I find pretty mean. Dunno whether it's to stop employee's getting idle or to reduce the number of strains from shifting items through the scanner but there would be uproar if they tried to do it here. The majority of Sainsburys staff is students and women aged 40-60, it'd be incredibly cruel if they made the students stand all day :(

uh, Farmfoods dont allow chairs on tills either. The number of times ive been caught by people just slouching a bit on the side of the tills is OMG...

Apparently they dont want you getting lazy, they expect you to do everything:

Serve Customers standing up
If no customers then pickup receipts arounds tills, receipts out of trolleys (this job is what the Area Manager always gives me and only me :/), sort out the chocolate bar shelf, aloing with the cans/bottles.

If all that is completed and theres no customers around, then you must go help put out stock.

So, at no time what so ever are you allowed to sit down unless its your break. Is kinda pathetic really
