I'm not sure that's necessarily best, as I said before you have to make sure they're not going to let their popularity impare they modship

that's stupid everyone would find out before long...

Best thing would be for someone new to be mod that way they won't feel pressured by their mates. Any of the "regulars" wouldn't work for obvious reasons

If they're new no one will know if they're trust worthy or not, a decent bloke etc... I'm just saying that you can't base it purely on who's been here the longest / whois most loved, they've gotta be prepared to take on the responsibility.

all that is fine, but there are "cliques" on the forums, if someone from them gets made a mod then the newbies are gonna be even more intimidated than they are already

I demand everyone who has been posting here for less than 6 months start working on essays about why they should be made mods. Bonuses will be awarded for spelling mistakes and elite speak!

but there are "cliques" on the forums

That's frankly rubbish, the only 'clique' here is that some people have been posting for donkey's years and are known. There's no way you're going to change the fact that long time posters have in jokes, and know each others names. That's basically what you refer to when you say cliques and to suggest it intimidates people is equally rubbish.

Tbh, from what i've read from him recently: shovel seems ideal.

Being a mod doesn't exactly give you "power" does it? I guess it could in someone's mind, but it doesn't count for much. "Wow", you can remove someone elses posts, it's not something you can make a career of.
The way I see it, community mods have to remove a few posts every couple of days (ok, more regularly than that) and send PMs to the poster saying why. End of. The way to avoid ego trips is not to choose egos.

Yes there's a "popularity risk", so level headed people that don't care about pop should be picked.

I agree about Embattle certainly. Xane may well be good too. If they want it.

How will the rest of the forum find out Danger? Unless they tell someone in which case they loose their mod status ...simple.

The whole point of it would be that they took the position seriously.

The way to start is to discuss how we choose the mods

Theres no point in suggesting a few random names ( most of those suggested so far probably wouldnt want the job tbh)

A mod couldn't be anon. If I closed a post or banned someone, the polite thing is to contact them and let them know why. Faceless will not work.

I'm really not sure about anonomous modding. One idea that I toyed with on my own forums was having a "Mod" user that moderators used to moderate posts with. But I went against it in the end because you have to be accountable for what you do. It is a responsibility and if you stop and think "I'm not sure" you should be checking with someone, not thinking "Ah well no one will know if it's me".

err because as soon as they edit someones post or something it will say... also people should know who they are so they have some right to protest... you can't have masked men editing and removing peoples threads!

People would find out because it said edited by at the bottom? Without that you've got a shield to hide behind without anykind of trace or comeback.

Mods have a duty to the community but they also need to be a part of the community to understand how it works. Personally I'd suggest Summo for a mod, however, his sense of humour seems to be 'too far' for BW right now so god knows. Anyone who gets it is in for a hell of a ride from all sides and frankly I pity anyone who does end up with the job as it will be terrible.

Also: There's been a lot of comment recently about attacks on individuals, obviously attacks on whoever ends up as a mod would be classed the same way. But if they were anon, then you could get attacks on the moderator group that tars everyone for an individual's mistake.
Accountability, again.

Yet more reasons for Embattle to be the one :)

He's so boring, i'm sure he's used to having our pity already :D He's "in" with the community enough to know how it works, but he generally avoids participating in the humour that goes on :)

Disturbingly, when I was 5 years old I went to school on Red Nose Day dressed as He-Man... ... so yes, I'd like to be a mod...

If they are not to be annon then they shouldnt be chosen from the regular users.

As has been said there are too many cliques. All that will happen is that after constant whinging the mods will start to renounce responsibility from their position, and if doesnt work first time round then the GAME staff will do it themselves and that will be worse.

I said it in an earlier post and Ill repeat it here. This forum is now a marketing tool to promote sales to GAME, nothing else. The soul of the place has gone.

If this thing isnt done properly first time round then we wont be given a second chance

Create an account under the name 'Moderator' and give a select few access to it. They've got the ability to moderate anonymously, yet still be able to participate as normal under their normal username

I've seen this used elsewhere, myself.

Indeed, I'd question what he did to get called "Boring" in repeated posts. He gets the the point and doesn't waste time on flame wars and the like, I can't see how that is anything but positive for a mod.

Thanks for the suggestion Dolly m8, but I wouldnt really want to be moderator here.
Im already admin on bw cs servers, bw dod servers (not often! ) and our own clan server. Plus I moderate the KEA forum, as you know . Thats enough for me !
Id nominate Lazurus, after all, there is surely an arguement for a general forum moderator to be disliked, and that puts him in the frame straight away :)

... No-one's seriously putting embattle down  He takes it in good jest, and he's a decent chap. He is still my serious suggestion for a mod, along with Cama; I just didn't want to pass up the chance to make fun of him :p
