Clearly Firewire HDs are in fact the dogs, we just got 4 in to act as audio drives, and they are amazing.

There you go Summo, the solution is cheaper than I could have hoped. £15 from RS components (works paying, how kind;) )

I also picked up a NEW Adaptec 2940 ultra from ebay for £35. Just need a cable now, and Im on.:D

I am indeed the bargain basement man.

EDIT.
Struggling to find an 80pin male to male cable now. :(

Ho hum, the search goes on.

Heh heh. Just bought meself one of these from RS, Wilier to go with a new drive I just done aquired. :) Many thanks, marvellous.

Really? I got mine a couple of days after ordering it.

Working a treat, though as Nick mentioned earlier on, its only 16bit so forces the SCSI adapter to negotiate the drive speed down to 40MB/sec rather than 160MB/sec, though to be honest I haven't noticed any 'real-life' change.

Oh, I see... I thought you meant it hadn't arrived yet...

I guess the moral of the story is that a wife and kids prevents installation of SCA/LVD adaptors. :/

Wise words.
