I dont really understand whats prompted it? I mean I'm no fan of scientology and of course its all based on science fiction but they dont really seem to do any particular harm to the greater community.
Better off picketing your local Christian or Muslim church if you want to protest at the evils of religion.
My suspicion is that these protestors were in fact Christians trying to drive out competition.

More information on the scientology protests, and flyers that were handed out.
Scientology isn't harmless, it's a money spinning cult that will seemingly do anything to protect itself, see Lisa McPherson and pretty much anything from this wiki page (yes I know it's wikipedia).
Scientology is basically a pyramid scheme and a cult; its not really a religion at all, and, unlike Christianity, or even Islam (here in the West anyway), it tries to suppress dissent, or even information about its activities, through the dodgiest legal shenanigans. Don't get me wrong, I detest all organised religion, but I like the way Anonymous is using its own methods to screw around with these arseholes.
Scientology now is where Christianity was 500-600 years ago in europe.
Add a thousand years to that and you'd be closer![]()
It established itself as the official Roman religion about 380 AD and came to the UK around the same time - it waned a bit when the Roman empire died but then was reinforced by missionairies from the pope about 597 AD.
I still think things like the Catholic church are 1000000000 X worse than Scientology because they have the power to screw people on a massive scale - just look at the Catholic churches stance on Condoms and all the nonsense its been spreading in Africa and South America about condoms having holes put in them and giving people Aids - that must have killed thousands if not tens of thousands of others and blighted millions of lives - how can the actions of scientology merit anything while such 'Religions' go un-opposed?
Rynnor, what's your point? I don't think anyone had a particular love of organised religion. This thread was about people having a pop at scientology, and more power to them. Sure, people should be picketing the Vatican, but they're not. However its not like most organised religions aren't getting a lot of negative public scrutiny is it?
I think the main point is that these Anon guys are most likely a bunch of Christians knocking the competition. And going after scientology rather than the other organised religions is like prosecuting a litter lout while letting the murderers go free.

I though pyramid schemes were illegal? or you had to be a moron to join one.
I think we should start a new religion based on FH. I am sure Trem could create something interesting.
Anon is merely attempting to show that Scientology is a brainwashing cult with the intent of extort it's members, extortion, last I looked was illegal but somehow Hubbard is getting away with it on the premise of religion and donations.
I don't see why you think Scientology should not be stigmatised, yes all other religions do the whole donation thing but in Scientology, this is mandatory as well as courses (which you have to pay for) which brainwash the members (and are required to stay as a member).
