You're being asked to poke, prod or be generally malicious towards Scientology, in video format.

In more detail - they're asking you to film and submit pranks by the look of it.

1) Other religions don't pamphlet your street telling your neighbours you're a paedophile because you disagree with them.

2) It's fairly expensive cash-wise to actually be a member of.

3) It's a young "religion" and therefore we can nip it in the bud.

4) It's not even a religion, it's a business....

I hate Scientology as much as the next non-retard but I'm inclined to agree with Rynnor. I think your only valid point there, Scouse, is that it's young. The other big religions have much more to answer for in the grand scheme of things.

yeh, places of worship don't maintain themselves I would think, also missions and hospices would be few and far between without cash. my only issue is that the CoS seems to pressure you into parting with all of your dosh, and it costs money to rise to higher levels of purity or something.

correct. at first I didn't find the CoS as "valid" as other religions, basically because their belief set is something derived from a mediocre SCIFI book, but I was mistaken. it's just as valid as everything else, including the FSM and the Church of the SubGenius.

I'm an Atheist thus I like to think I'm a neutral in squabbles between religions and lets be clear because thats what this is.

There are many supposedly 'mainstream' religions that do this kind of thing - the Roman Catholics have Agnus Dei - these guys practice self mortification, tithe all of their earnings, are cut off from their families and cant mix with non-catholic types outside of their job of work and have to live in a proscribed place.

That to me sounds about 100x worse than scientology.

As to your claim that other religions arent behind the campaigns against Scientology I think thats untrue, all religions fundamentally view the rest as a threat - to have a 'legitimate' target like scientology lets em indulge themselves.

Its like a bunch of racists who have been stifled by political correctness being told that its ok to pick on chinese people - they have a field day

Personally I think anything that shifts the mindset in to one of "it's OK to attack religion" suits me fine. Granted, the 'mainstream' religions might be wanting it all pointed at Scientology but hopefully they'll catch some of it too.

Unlikely - they are in positions of power - hell they are the establishment in many countries and have considerable influence.

Either you believe in religious tolerance or you dont - cant make exclusions for 'religions you dont like much' or the whole thing falls apart.

Not that I'm suggesting that you are intolerant but its a slippery slope that starts with seemingly innocuous exceptions.

Oh there's no exceptions here - I'm utterly intolerant of religion, though that's much in the same way that I'm intolerant of people claiming pigs can fly. If someone quietly believes that pigs can fly then I'm not going to go after them, but anyone who claims they can in an open forum* is fair game. My disdain for Scientology is no more or less than my disdain for any other religion. I guess intolerance might not be the right word to use as I'm quite happy to tolerate them but those who put themselves in the position to have their religion scrutinised should have their religion scrutinised.
