Parents will get there way. It does not matter what a little shit you raise your child to be. I would like to know if there talking in class is a constant problem and if the parents have been told and tried to do something about it. I know a few teachers and one has said problem kids at there school can spoil a lesson and refuse to leave the room. They call the head and suspend the kid but if they just sit there no one can touch them.

There's an escalation process (send the kid to the head of year, then the principle) for a reason. The teacher shouldn't just be suspended, he should be fired, because he's a fucking moron.

Its really fucking simple, you follow the process and you don't stick things on their faces, and ideally don't humiliate them in front of the other kids.

The teachers at the school I went to (Rough school) who used unorthodox teaching methods such as the article got the best results, because the kids respected the teacher and engaged in lessons, and had a laugh. (OH NO YOU CANT DO THAT)

I know, let's sack all those teachers that make lessons engaging and fun, then the results will go down, but then, you know, Parents would moan that the school is failing their kids.

The old school hard-nosed cane using teacher has gone, it needs to be replaced with a class that's down to having fun - having teachers that stand there regurgitating information without making it the slightest bit interesting is rubbish.

FFS, it was obviously a joke. Either the kid was told to put the tape on herself, the teacher did it gently or another kid did it. If it was done aggressively, the teacher would be long gone and it would have been described in the article. That's not inventing situations - it's common sense. I had a teacher that lobbed pens at you when you were talking. No one cared.

Our RE teacher was like a ninja and if you were talking shit you would get hit with a bit of chalk and then you had to bring it back to him. If you talked again he would bang two erasers together over your head and tell you to sort your uniform out before you got detention. His classes were a great laugh.

However that doesn't mean one should tape up the mouths of students. In my day if I misbehaved my parents were called and informed I wouldn't be allowed home for the one of the two weekends per term that I could go home. This weekend was spent without privileges (TV & tuck shop) and I'd I have to go to church on Saturday & Sunday, plus confession. You just didn't do it again..... Simple

Err, it kinda is. The stuff that teachers used to get away with back in the day just doesn't fly anymore. It's shit but that's just how it is in this day and age. A teacher physically doing something like that to a student is pretty much the definition of assault in this context.

She sounds like a mouthy little so-and-so but there's proper ways of dealing with things and I'd suggest that taping an 11-year-old girl's mouth shut is not one of them. And the dad's attitude is pretty awful as well.
