Noone really commented on the fact that people are selfish bastards(like i don't know this allready) for driving on by.

You might get jailtime in finland if you don't stop at an accident scene.

First one there is obligated to stop and help.

But, about the 15+ mph increase. Seems silly that anything would cause a braking increase in speed :D

BUT...driving on a town road at 45mph isn't that bad, driving while seeing sh*t(all pun) on the road is. 60mph town speed limit is just stupid.

the road does slope down a bit and what the patch was i cant be 100% sure i didnt see the scene, Its not next to a farmers yard but the road is used by them 50+ times a day. I cant be 100% sure on the speed i was doing but i know it wasnt near 60 as the limit is.

I wasnt in town when it happened i was on my way in to town the road is more of a country road like the rest around here where i live.

I've just been advised that this isn't my fault at all and that compensation will be granted on councils behalf.

cor blimey bud glad your alright, hope you have a nice long bath and soak your neck to ease any soreness /hug

tbh if that was me (well if that was me i'd be for it because i cant drive lol but...) i know your supposed to go in to a skid and tap the brakes but tbh i'd be buggered if i could think straight in that situation, me being me id just wave my hands about, prolly moosh the gas pedal by mistake and screams "heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

I hope those buggers who drove past you need help one day and no one stops for them... or someone does stop and then they remember not stopping for you and feel like total utter shits. Miserable bastards I hate people like that.

Ever seen a drunk smelly guy on the street just laying down and not stop checking if he's ok? Or did you just go ewww and move along thinking "what a disgusting guy"?

Ever saw a drunk guy in a bar passed out and not check if he's ok? Or did you just laugh a bit(perhaps crack a joke about it) and wait for the bouncers to get him?

The drunk smelly guy might just be an epileptic guy having a stroke and peeing his pants or even a real hobo might have a heart attack. The drunk guy might have alcohol poisoning or is a diabetic and passed out due to low bloodsugar.

I'm not judging you as a person, i agree people should stop, but people are selfish bastards, every single one, some less, some more, but noones a saint. Should judge selfishnes, but not overcritisise.

Glad to see your alright.

If you saw a chav had a car accident, would you stop and help him or would you worry if he's going to pull a knife on you? The time of night I'm usually driving around because of being on nightshift I'm not really sure what I would do. I'd probably stop at some distance, call the police+ambulance before getting out to help. Do see some really dodgy looking geezers around at 4am in some towns.

I thought you were suposed to speed up when your car started to skid so you can gain more traction on the road?

Skid Recovery
As hard as it is to do when the adrenaline shoots through your body, you need to stay calm when you feel your wheels slipping. Don't floor the brake or gas pedal, or begin wildly cranking the steering wheel. Not only are these techniques futile, but they'll actually exacerbate the bad situation you're in.

Instead, steer into the fishtail and remove your foot, slowly, from the accelerator. Some instructors might even tell you to push in the clutch. Thus, if your rear wheels bolt out to the left, turn the steering wheel smoothly to the left (but not drastically) and ease up from the gas pedal.

What will happen? The rear tires will slow their rotation enough to regain their grip. Your car will soon stop sliding and begin to straighten, and you can bring the wheel back to center. It seems counterintuitive to aim your car in the direction it's skidding, but it's the only way to get control back―and you'll be relieved when it works.

Panicking might cause you to do what many people feel is the natural (but entirely wrong) maneuver: to steer harder in the direction you want to go, which is opposite from the skid, and gun the engine even harder to force the vehicle to comply. This will quickly send you into a spinning donut slide, completely losing control of the car.

You're lucky to escape with a few cuts my friend. Its easy to say in hindsight "if you'd been driving slower than blah blah", but there's four sides to the coin.
(1) If you don't see it, you don't see it. You'll skid at 20, 30, 40, or whatever speed.
(2) Under 1% of the driving population know what to do in a skid situation (ie drive in direction of the skid, don't use the brakes, and use the handbrake).
(3) If everyone's doing 45 in a 60 road, most ppl will keep speed with the traffic.
(4) Then again...how come no one else skidded on it ?

Glad to hear you're okay bud; been in a couple of crashes myself and know it's not the nicest of things to say the least...

There are however only a couple of ways you can gain speed, neither of which are due to skidding. Being on a downward slope or accelerating using the cars engine.

No surface has zero friction or resistance on the planet except in a vacuum, otherwise on the flat, you'd literally jump onto it and never stop (Would be one hell of a fun slide though ;)). In fact, the only ones known at the moment are space itself or a .....whats the word. Not stasis chamber; the one which you can float in :p Even then, as soon as you touch something, your trajectory is slowed slightly, even if it is a tiny amount.

Bleh, bit off topic but even if it were ice, unless there's a slope, you would still slowly loose speed.

As for people driving past, what ass holes... For all they know, you could be really badly hurt, even if you are standing up :(

I think you are full of shit :)

I do not consider myself a saint, but I would have stopped to see if he was
okay and if he had a mobile to contact whoever. I would help an old lady cross the road or mind one if they had fell over. The examples you gave are shit plain and simple.

In an ideal world this situation would not exist because the guy who is a diabetic should know what his limit is and his friends who he is out with should know what to watch for. If he has has drank so much he is poisoned then thats his own fault as well.

No my examples are quite fine to the point i was giving. Noone's a saint. Like you yourself said.

I said, judge people for not helping, but don't overjudge them, 'cause everyone disregards people on assumptions and preset highgrounds. Those people driving might have thought something too.

The diabetic? You know ALOT as it seems. The guy took a jog before going to the bar, ate something, went out on his own('cause *shock* people do that), had ONE beer that dropped his bloodsugar and because he had that jog earlier, or new insulin doses, OR even had a low sugar for a week or so due to new exersize and doesn't know it...his bloodsugar level just spiked down. It has NOTHING to do with knowing your limits. How do i know this? Well shiver me timbers i was that guy.

Went to a bar, had one drink, got thrown out for being too drunk when i was infact spiking. Lucky for me, i got to a store and bought something to eat. If it had been late at night, not so good.

Also overdosing on alcohol is something every single person is at danger from the first drink. Sometimes things go overboard, metabolism also effects it and in party situations things just pass by and you might be the bestest drinker in the world, but you just get blindsided.

The drunken guy on the street? Might be, like i said, a really sick guy who is just hungover "smelly", or soiled himself because of a medical problem and fell over because of that same medical issue. Diabetics as an example may appear totally wasted when their bloodsugar goes up or down.

But people wouldn't help because...yes...preset ideas and assumptions.

But those examples are nothing like Infanitys problem.

As for you being that guy, most diabetics would take a snack bar wherever they go for use in an emergency.

Yup, the examples arn't exactly like the problem, but they are examples of people basing help "needs" on their assumptions. Don't compare them so directly on eachother. And also take into consideration that i didn't say people were right in passing by, but judging them too harsh isn't right either. Not before you take a look at other things other people might find bad about you. Get it?

Yeah, ask a couple of diabetics if they live that "medical" life THAT well. It's not like every diabetic in the world runs around with a snickers bar in their backpocket all the time, everywhere, always.

Hell, diabetics don't live the shots, blood, strict diet thing that people think either. If you're not a diabetic, i suggest you leave that judgemental behaviour home. I might have spiked harder and not been able to walk, let alone eat something and people would've looked at me like a common drunk.

There is difference between seeing a accident unfold in front of you and passing by a accident scene just after hit happend. In the first case i'm pretty sure most people will help. In the second case, most people are tryingn to figure out what just happend and will stop or drive back only after the their initial reaction of "what and how" fades away.

That's imo tho, i'm not a shrink, but I had a few situations where I immediate went for help and other situations where I didn't bother. (accidents, fights, drunk/sick people etc)

They drove passed which was infact an accident. Not a potential oh he is pissed or having some random fit. Your examples give the option of there a few possible scenarios his car smoking and being crushed to bits cannot be mistaken for him being a pisshead.

I dont judge I make a decision based on my opinion the people were wrong for driving passed. In your examples it is not as simple as that.

Yes, but you're missing the point i was making.

The point being, that people shouldn't OVERjudge others. As in, "people are total and utter bastards for not stopping".

I had an argument with a tesco checkout lady last week. She was taking the piss and really being disrespectful about this little old lady buying her shopping on the till across from her. She got what my opinion was of her after I had finished ripping into her. My judgement of her was that she is a worthless piece of meat who is not good enough to pack the old ladies bags. I doubt I was wrong.

Well you see what you did now? Totally different case. There you actually base your hatred towards someone on (edit: )actual knowledge of the other person :)

saw a 200lb woman in a doorway one night on way home from the pub when i was about 18, she was covered in piss and sick and i called an ambulance and stayed with her while they came and took her off, that count?

not everyone would but then if it was me i'd want someone to help so i help just in case one day it is me, it's actually me being selfish and hoping to accrue karma.
