Weed should be legalized, the only reason that it brings the problems that it does, is because it is illegal, that's it really.

It's healthier than smoking cigarettes, and it has great medical uses, beyond stopping pain, I'm sure there will be alot of raised eyebrows at this statement. Also, as Everz said, it also helps to stimulate the local economy, giving jobs etc.

but there will be people out there saying it's a bad idea, simply because the Governments say so :) - que sera.

I'd love to see a full on discussion about the different drugs, and if they should be legalised, or not, such as Cocaine should definately be illegal, but i'm not sure if the boss mans would stand for it.

Cocaine should be sold in high street chemists at a sick profit to anyone who wants to buy it.

Isn't that preferable to black youngsters shooting each other and innocent people?

This is the sorta government-backed arguement I thought I'd find, very little gang culture is caused by drug dealing, it's mosty due to boredom.

For the culture that is based around drugs, if weed was legalized, then there wouldn't be any 'drug dealing' for weed, part of the problem will simply, dissapear.

Actually Gwad it has alot to do with the drugs trade still, people still deal just at a lower price then the smoke shops. The main problem (in America at least) is that poverty is wide spread, there are (as Cerb could back up) millions of homeless in America, that alone massively increases the crime rate.

A zero tolerance policy such as one present in NYC has been extremely effective however.

Yeah but surely if there's a pretty low set price in shops, then the 'street dealers' would struggle to compete meaning less ganj dealers?

The prices aren't low in the smoke shops however, pretty much double street price and thus has no effect. That and heroin, coke etc etc aren't legalized and thus still provide a heavy market for the dealers. The crime rate is more the total lack of anyway to make money in America and the high poverty rate, which leads to the drugs/gang trade
