Is there a cable/box/thingy that can be attached to the outside of a PC so you can quickly plug in (normally internal) hard drives, both SATA and IDE drives?

I have a bunch of old drives I want to copy data off and my PC is already full on the inside, I'd have to keep swapping drives over inside the box which would be a total pain.

That looks just right, can you get those in the UK too?

You can actually get external SATA connections and USB>SATA cables. Im not sure how the power connection works, ill look into it and report back

Should be of help and a LOT cheaper than external caddies - although I must admit caddies are damned useful. Ive just ordered some of the dual SATA backplate connectors for future testbench work - saves dismantling cases and caddies :)

The box Teren mentioned doesn't seem that expensive to me, assuming I can buy one here in the UK. I'd prefer a box I think to cables coming out the back of my PC, as long as I can put both types of hard drives into it that''d be great.

Actually just looked at that link : indeed, very cheap - I will be fairly sure you won't get much similar for less than £30 which is a bit of a con :(

Ill keep my eyes open anyway
