So my mate got one of these.

It's absolutely fucking fabulous. I was a fan of the S1, but this is just superb - so slick, so fast, such a great screen. Definitely iPhone 4 levels of slickness.

Got the original Galaxy S (with the 16GB built-in storage...go Vodafone!) and I'm very happy with it, but I will be upgrading to either an S2 or a JesusPhone this year.

Looks nice, but I'm holding out a few weeks for the HTC Sensation. I still don't trust samsung, given their shocking history of software updates!

I have had mine for 2 weeks now and it is superb!!

Battery life is better than my Nexus One. With light use and wifi on all the time my battery lasted 36 hours...

The screen is amazing, the camera and video recording is superb.
The Samsung video player plays HD mkv's!

Phone call sound quality is even better than my Nexus One which was excellent anyway.

It is very light and very thin. I'm glad I got this phone. I was also going to wait for the HTC Sensation but I reckon this is a much better gadget!

This guy has a really good review of it.

I went from the Nexus One to the Nexus S via about 5 other phones lol. And it really is the best of both worlds. Stunning Screen, great looks all around its lightning fast and as a Google phone it gets the updates first. I have been running 2.3.4 for a couple of weeks now.

I had the Galaxy S but I had to root it and install a lag fix to make it work properly the Samsung software really was a weak point.

I don't really use much of the Samsung software. I am using Launcher Pro and making use of most of the stock android stuff.

Any of the Samsung software I have used works very well mind you....

Just watched that S2 vid. Certainly looks like a nice phone. Knocks spots of my wife's Wildfire. Seriously considering getting one...

Amazon are doing it SIM-free for £510

Thats pretty pricey.

You can get an iPhone4 SIM free probably cheaper...

Of course you can get a phone which is 11 months old for cheaper... ;)

I understand what you mean though, it's sometimes hard to justify paying for a phone which is more expensive than what the majority of people consider to be the best phone - even if the hardware specs are superior.

EDIT: After a quick check, my sarcasm is incorrect - the Galaxy S2 is 1p cheaper, bargain!

Apparently the UK version of the S2 doesn't come with NFC (Near Field Communication). Is that a problem?

Nobody is using it yet. All of the real world NFC usage is mostly trials to see if it works, or actual usage limited to a small area, specific phone network and handset, etc.

It's not going to take off at all, liability with the retailer for fraud... No chance.

I'm not interested for the reasons Ch3t says, same I'm not interested in the proximity credit cards. All I need to do is set up a very large out-of-spec antenna, put it in a van and drive it around billing everyone. Kerching!

Amazon just dropped their price for the phone - now £489.99 (down from £510)

Edit: LOL. In the past 40 seconds the price went up to 495 then 499.

Been reading a lot about the S2. The two most common gripes are the shockingly bad battery life (even non intensive use - just background syncing on email accounts & occasional web browsing) you only get 9 hours battery life. That can't be right. You'd expect your phone to last at least till bed time for the nightly re-charge. The other gripe is that it get really hot.

Gonna look at the HTC Sensation.

My battery lasts a lot longer than 9 hours. It once lasted up to 36 hours (obviously with minimal use ie the odd call and browsing etc). Even with playing Angry Birds for 40+ mins my battery lasts from 7am to around 9pm

I believe there is a battery leak caused by Android but I have not noticed anything major battery drain.

Yes it does get a bit hot when watching video or playing games like Angry Birds but it cools down very quickly.

By all means check out the Sensation but it doesn't get quite as good reviews at the S2 does

ive heard nothing but praises for the battery life so far, ranges from 15hours to 30+ hours, from what ive read.

Really want one of these myself, but i find the sim-free price is still just too much imo.

I guess it really depends on how you use it, "heavy use" is a subjective term.

The screen resolution is better on the Sensation but the screen is far better on the S2. I think I'll wait a few months:dual core & AMOLED type screens is definitely the future of smartphones. The way Android phones are going, not even considering getting an iphone.

I disagree. The S2 looks nice with it's saturated colours, but the colours are not accurate, certainly not as accuate as the iPhone 4's not to mention the pixel density of the AMOLED screens are still way behind that of the IPS screen used in the iPhone 4. Additionally, off axis viewing on the iPhone 4's screen is also better.

Still, the S2 seems to have nearly caught up with year old tech :).
