same lag again after patch :(

Ok, 1.52 is here and I once again have lag, not too surprising really though as it has happened every time we have gotten a patch. I cant time in styles, i dont even do styles for half of my fights versus yellows since they dont come off until i get a spree of "you have already selected your styles for this round".

This really sucks and the game is once again totally unplayable, I have died several times due to lag... again.

I have a 10Mbit-connection that works well towards most servers around, but not prydwen.

About 1 month after 1.50 things started to work again as they should, tonight I Ld'd 5 times and had severe lag.. this was during the night mind you, the servers around is nowhere as stressed as during the evening and still its not working. I run pingplotter and there is a really big packetloss aswell as huge lagspikes starting here:

ip: 64.212.107.10 -- pos1-0-0-155m.br1.cdg1.gblx.net

it worked perfectly well before we got patched to 1.52, why not now?

Does anyone else have these problems?

Yup, lots more lag but not since patch, since that server maintenance two days ago. But a little more lag since patch i've seen.

My lag started after the patch and went worse after that maintenance you mention.

maybe its not the server but your isp connection taht is to blame?

according to a plotterprogram I use its not my ISP, since the lagspikes starts at that point I mentioned and continues at opentransit.

I use clara net and never EVER go LD never get lag so bad as I cannot do anything (unless massive rvr battles), the only times I have LD`d has been when I used to use freeserve and thier 2 hour cut off would cause me to LD.

And I'm on most nights from between 5pm to 1-2am

Its your ISP's routing thats the problem, probably high traffics on thier providers links , not really much you can do about that unless you can get them to change the routing tables for you... (not going to happen)

This is with 64k ISDN btw.

"gblx.net"

There's your problem, they are sh!te to put it mildly.

My ISP routes through them as well, and I had also been having alot of lag when I hit their hops but it seemed to have gotten better here over the week-end.

hmm so its my ISP's fault that my packets go to france, then london and then france again?

yup, it is.
dont know how your ISP handles business, but in Denmark, we have about 3-5 major ISPs, but its the biggest one that has the routing claims.
this means, that my ISP (being the most reasonable of them all) have to making routing agreements with the big one, which you can quickly figure out, means that the big one gets the best possible and mine gets the worst.

to a quake server in stockholm, i was once routed DK -> Stockholm -> New York -> Korea -> India somewhere -> Denmark <again> -> THEN to the server in Stockholm.

I called my ISP and whined horribly weekly, for a few months, and they got in return fixed a better routing to the server in question.

Not sure if this is doable with yours :(

Yes. Your ISP controls the route to your target, not the target server.

(This isn't 100% strictly true, but it'll do for now).

Possibly the reason why you keep seeing lag spikes after patches is that your ISP routes through a particularly crap set of low-tolerance routers to get to GOA... which is fine most of the time, but post-patch for a few days/a couple of weeks the load jumps by about 100%, meaning there's now twice as many people trying to get through that router and get to GOA.

Oh and don't bother complaining to your ISP either. Once it's out of their own network they generally don't want to know about any problems (which is fair enough, they can't force the other company to upgrade their routers). You'll either have to ride it out or, if it happens a lot, swap ISPs.

Hmmm, I kind of thought you had BBB as an isp, as I have the same problem myself. I mailed Goa about this (attaching traceroutes) and they of course blaimed my isp as they said that they "checked everything on their side" (damn incompetent, even I could read from the logs I sent that the problem wasn't on my isp's side but closer to the gameservers) . I mailed BBB and asked if the routing could be changed as I heard that it could be done, because it seems/seemed like the routers in France were the ones that were having problems. They responded that they had an agreement with Global Crossing and couldn't break that, and that if I had problems I would contact them or Wanadoo, since they thought that the logs I sent seemed to show that the problems were there.

Well, I haven't contacted anyone more yet. I however downloaded Pingplotter recently (www.pingplotter.com) (used Visualroute before) and yesterday tried running it a bit for an extended period of time, upwards an hour. I saw two things worth noting. First that pos11-0-0-155M.br1.CDG1.gblx.net had an avarage ping higher than normal, and this was caused by it having spikes of high ping quite often. Secondly, the gameserver itself (Prydwen, 193.252.123.13) had similar spikes of high ping, not as often (perhaps once every 30 secs, but it coincides pretty well with the bad lagspikes I'm having) but pretty serious ones as the graph at the bottom showed LARGE spikes when it happened. As a side note the first case (pos11-0-0-155M.br1.CDG1.gblx.net) only showed very tiny spikes in the graph. I then thought I would try running Pingplotter on my second comp, while being logged in in the game on the first and check if the really bad lagspikes indeed were caused by the spikes in the gameserver. Unfortunately by this time it was quite late, and it seems that the problems are worse at peak hours (really bad then though). I logged in my sm, added the lowest level of pbae to my quickbar and started spamming it. This is because that you notice lagspikes best while casting spells. If there is lag you won't start casting the spell until the spike is over (imagine how fun it is when the lagspikes are 30-45 secs in worst case, which happens about once every 10 mins for me.. :/). The pbae has low casting time which helps me to see the lagspike faster, before the performance bar shows it. Well, I noticed that all the lagspikes were minor at that time, from both the nodes that were having problems. I will however keep investigating this.

My bet is that it is those lagspikes in the gameserver itself that is causing the worst spikes ingame. If I find that out I will confront Goa with this information and hear what they have to say. If you want I can add info in this thread if/when I've found out more.

.. or as i said, you may have one of the ISPs who gives a damn.
My ISP is heavily into online gamers, and as such, they are quite aware how horrible it is to be one, with bad routing

I too got BBB and I too got the same problems as you do. Dammit I had no problems whatsoever with DAoC up until recently but now it isn't at all as fault-free as it once was.

Yeah, the last 2-3 months have been bad at best regarding the connection.

A small update. The problem seems to be twofold. Both the gblx server and the Prydwen server (and the node right before that server). They both at the moment have spikes of high ping. I haven't yet discovered at what condition I get the worst lagspikes ingame (the 30 sec ones), but I am suspecting that if I get pingspikes at the same time at several points along the line that situation might occur. I've tried mailing Global Intercrossing about their server since it seems to be the most faulty one so far, but that was just last night and haven't received any answer yet. Will be surprised if I do though, not many mails you send out like this gets answered. :/ Oh well, you can only hope...

I contacted rightnow and asked this:

Hi there i have played since start of retail and mostly it have worked perfectly fine, after 1.52 however I get lagspikes and LD's very often now.

The spikes starts at 62.24.34.90 -- pos11-0-0-155M.br1.CDG1.gblx.net and goes on all the way through opentransit...

Today i have lD'd of 6 horses, went LD 2 times and died 3 times due to lagspikes... This is not acceptable in any way.

I have checked my ISP and they have no problems.
Other gameservers works well.
Its only prydwen that doesnt work as it should.

Grad lvl44 ranger in Hibernia on Prydwen.

Hello,

You should send this report to your ISP as the 62.24.34.90 -- pos11-0-0-155M.br1.CDG1.gblx.net is totally independant from us and the routing is done by your provider only.

well ok, so i figured i'd try and talk to my ISP's support. I am sorry for the swedish here guys.

I asked this:

and BBB answered this:

Hej xxx

Teknisk support / Andreas
Bredbandsbolaget

So now i have mailed them again:

Hej igen.

Struntar ni i oss gamers
eller?

MvH /xxx

and now awaiting answer...

What I propose is that all you guys with BBB and have problems take contact with their support via mails support@breband.com and kundtjanst@bredband.com and bombard them with requests to fix this somehow.

The odds for us to make gblx fix it is very small, BBB as their partner should go in and point out that they have problems that needs to be attented to.

dunno if it makes you feel any better, but ive just started getting lag tonight, i went afk for about 20 minutes, came back and found it was lagging like hell. went straight onto pingplotter and it seems there is a problem at opentrasit (ping is fine untill it hits them, were it decides to jump to a minimum of 900ms), ive not bothered contacting anyone, since its only just happened, but im kinda frustrated and hope itll get fixed, when the game first went live i was getting a perminent delay of 1000ms, and it took about a month and an email o 2 before it was fixed... i just hope they notice it this time.

is anyone else getting this lag btw? it started at around 7pm i guess.

Shike, good to see that more people are contacting BBB with this problem. I've sent some mails to Gblx and so far only received some mail saying everything is fine and that a ping increase of 20ms from one node to another is no problem. My first reaction was just "duh, I already know that, and that's not even the problem I was talking about.". Well, I'll see how this works out.

agraucred & Euthanasia, my guess is that you guys are having a different problem. You live in UK? Perhaps even with NTL as isp? Check this thread:

good guess considering it only started tonight and whilst i was connected to the server :p

itll just be some server or router fuck up at Opentransit, as long as its fixed tomoro night im not bothered. oh, and im not on NTL, im with Kingston Communications, id usually blame them, but theve actually been ok recently... refreshing change.

Well, that it started today kind of tipped me off since me and Shike have had this problem quite a while now. :) Just browsed a few lag kind threads before checking in on the replies in this one, that's why I remembered that other thread. I do hope you get your connection fixed, my guess is that we in Sweden/BBB will be stuck with this problem quite a while... :/

I am currently talking to a guy at Global intercrossing. If you (Shike, lakih, other customers of BBB) want you can mail him and tell him your problems also. At least he would then see that there are more people with the same problem. If you want his mail address PM me, as I don't like posting mail addresses on boards like these.

I sent an email to BBB's customersupport (support@bredband.com) and asked them why the routing was so frekking stupid (Stockholm-Paris-London-Paris-Bagnolet) the reply i got was this: (translated from swedish)

Hello <insert Lakih's real name>!

Thank you for your email.

The problem lies within an operator called GlobalCrossing (gblx.net) so we can unfortunatly not do anything about it from here except inform them of the problem witch we ofcorse will do.

So... what now? Well, ive contacted the Consumers rights officials here in sweden and they redirected me to the monitoring agency of this perticular matter (internet communication) called PTS
(For you swedes out there; First i contacted Konsument vägledarna and then Post & Telestyrelsen ;))

I havent yet got hold of the people incharge of these things at PTS, but hopefully i will be succesfull tomorrow (for what good it will do)

If you are haveing these problems, send a email to support@bredband.com and let them know! The more people complaining over this matter the bigger the chance is that something will be done.

Got dammit I almost feel like cancelling my entire DAOC subscription. Recently got a runie to Thidranki and as a caster lag is lethal. Melee characters might survive a lagspike but when I try to catch a other caster with my nukes I always loose because of this F*****G crap problem...

I never been this furious at a computer related problem...especially since I cant fix it.
