Sam & Max sequel announced

Sam and Max, the dog and rabbit duo, will hit the road again in 2004.

LucasArts recently announced that a sequel to its classic Sam & Max adventure game is currently in development. News of a possible sequel was first leaked by now-defunct developer Infinite Machine on that company's Web site last year, though no publisher was named at the time. Originally, Infinite Machine stated that this sequel would be developed solely for the Xbox. However, LucasArts' announcement this morning clearly indicates that this game is being developed for the PC, and no mention of any console versions was made.
"Sam & Max Hit the Road is a classic and as close to being a signature game as any LucasArts has ever done," said LucasArts president Simon Jeffery. "The Sam & Max sequel, much like the recently announced Full Throttle II, perfectly complements LucasArts' renowned adventure game legacy and lends further support to the company's commitment to investing in and developing more of our original properties."

No other details beyond the game's existence were given in the press release, except for the fact that this sequel should be ready in the first quarter of 2004. It also wasn't made clear whether the game was being developed internally at LucasArts or at an external developer. We'll have more details on the Sam & Max sequel as they become available.

I don't know about anyone else, but the original was one of the single greatest adventure games like...ever!

DOTT > Sam'n'Max.

Although S'n'M (hrrhrr) was fantastic and, as long as they don't fuck around with it too much (Escape from Monkey Island, anyone?), the sequel should be equally great.

In the subject of fucking sequals to old games, see my comments on the prospect of a BrokenSword3 on the news item reguarding sam and max...

I heard they're going to make Stobbart "mean" and "ruthless"...

Did anyone ever get into Grim Fandango? It seems to be the adventure game that time forgot(tm), but I thought it was awesome.

Never really liked Sam & Max tbh - the interface was shitty, and the humour wasn't as good as DOTT.

Yes, stu, Grim Fandango superb. :)

It took a while to get used to the new control system, but it became pretty intuitive after a while. Hmm, come to think of it, I never actually finished that...
  1. Day of the Tentacle (definitely the daddy.)
  2. Monkey Island 2: Lechuck's Revenge
  3. The Secret of Monkey Island
  4. Grim Fandango
  5. Sam'n'max
  6. The Curse of Monkey Island
  7. Full Throttle
  8. Escape from Monkey Island
  9. The Dig
    [/list=1]
I think that's my list of my favourite Lucasarts P'n'C's. I think it's time I went and blew the dust of Monkey Island and played through it again. :)

I still have Sam & Max with voice on CD as is the same with Indiana Jones: Fate of Alantis. Also got Monkey Island 1 and 2 on CD. All classic games, better than most of the shite publishers churn out nowadays.

Shit, I completely forgot about the Indy's. :/
And yes, they would all come above The Dig. :)

(Indy 4 = Infernal Machine, right?)

The Fate of Atlantis was the best of the Indy games. Ah, the fight with the doorman..what a great memory:D

I don't have any of the Indy's apart from The Infernal Machine... I need to go and get hold of them from the local games exchange place and play them all through again. :)

I was just reading some of the walkthrough for DotT... name one game from the past 5 years that has had you laughing at the walkthrough without even having the game on the screen in front of you. :)

You can't, there just hasn't been one. The old adventure games of LucasArt's were simply genius. That's why they're still in the PCG top 100.

One of the best character's ever is the talking horse, from DOTT...:D

Make it a priority to get the old Indy's, they'll be worth million's in ten years time.:)

The Professor was fantastic as well. I remember giving him the coffee and seeing him have that fit in the basement. :D

Awww, I love the old Lucasarts games. :)

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis had a talkie version.

I'm having problems with speech audio on DOTT. The sound stops after about 2 seconds and doesn't start until the next sentance. Also sometimes it pauses and I have to press '.' to continue the game.

I still have both DOTT and S&M on CD, I liked them not only because they were entertaining but they had a nice kind of "logic" to the solutions to each part of the quest, and were partially non-linear, my step-son also enjoyed them too (he was around 8/9 at the time).

I vaguely remember playing Monkey Island and there were several bits where you just resorted to trying everything with everything in the end, not that exciting. Also adventures like Discworld drive me mad, the solutions to that one were so absurd, I hated it despite being a big Pratchett fan.

DOTT was a nice balanced adventure, very well done.

Try running it in compatibility mode, MT. Thats usually the salvation of old games, that were designed on now defunct code bases [or saaing, I imagine].

I ran DOTT on 98, and it runs fine, with the music and speech (speech only in cutscenes, alas, as I have the floppy version). I also remember playing Maniac Mansion on DOTT, on the computer in the stamp loving fella's room, but when I try to use it, the music restarts and Bernard says something.

lol yeah glottis was great.

What I loved about Grim Fandango is that it was so film noir and cool..

Oh, and Jack Nicholson the dead clown was cool :)

"argh, my carpal tunnel syndrome is playing up"
"but you don't have any tendons"
"well you don't have a tongue, but you don't seem to shut up do you?"

edit: nghh, just tried to play Sam n Max again, no such bloody luck. No sound whatsoever :/

Bloody win2k :|
