I think it is almost impossible to describe it as a success, it offers 1080 levels of performance a year later and for £50-80 more on purchase alone which excludes increased power costs and because of mining demand it is slowly creeping up to 1080 Ti prices.

And the reason the power consumption is so high is they had to really clock the cards hard to even get close to the 1070 & 1080's so there's not even much capacity left for overclocking.

There's absolutely nothing about these cards that make me want to ditch NVIDIA.

And Nvidia have basically got a year to do what the hell they like. Charge what they want for the 1080 Ti, release Volta when they want. They're under no pressure at all at the top end for at least 18 months.

I think this is the sweet spot for me, I'm currently playing BF1 on a 27" monitor on ultra at 1440p - everything runs smoothly but would like to upgrade to a 4k monitor (probably a 32" model) and continue the same performance (or, at least 60 fps).
