RvR Commander

After last nights battle in the mid frontier I, and several people who I spoke to, found that the mid-army was a bit to unorganised. A multiple of things were great:
- the quick response time
- so many people heeding the call to arms (at one time a /who uppland resulted in 200 hits)
– the gm cg was an informative channel.

The one thing that midgard lacked that day was a commander.
A commander is in my opinion needed to achieve success in warfare. There is a reason why militaries aren’t run democratically – democracy may be fair but it is slow and in war timing and speed is of the uttermost importance.
Saying this I don’t mean that we should coronate a king of midgard. I want a commander that listens to the /as and the gm cg and takes decision based on the intelligence and the proposals displayed to him (or her if you want). It is important that the commanders decision are followed and recognized otherwise the meaning of having a commander is totally lost. We have already come a far bit on cooperation in midgard but with a commander we will be able to coordinate ourselves.

So how should this commander work? Well after a quick contemplation I made up this suggestion.
Commander should be at a safe spot whit a minimum of lag – in other words not in the frontier or at a crowded place.
Commander should try to keep record of friends and foes – easiest done by either sketching or using tokens on the map of the frontier.
Some advantage would be gained if 2 or more players where in the same room helping each other and being able to stand in during akfs and linkdeaths.
Commander should delegate responsibility and authority-when the decision needs to be taken by one that is able to see the battle so must be done. (Comander says player X will be in charge of the battle at keep Y. When X yells attack everyone does so)

To sum this up – we need someone to yell charge and we need everyone to charge when he yells. Furthermore we need people to be patient and to sacrifice themselves abit.

I didn’t participate on our last relicraid and therefore I cant evaluate it, but people expressed utter satisfaction with the leadership of the raid so it must have been good.

And to round this up, a cliché; yes everyone I know this is a game. Meaning people do exactly like they wish and they do this for fun, but I find it- believe it or not- to be more fun when I am on the winning side.

Ok so he got a fact wrong. If you do not have anything contructive to say then shut it.

On the commader issue. I aggree that as a alliance we need someone capable of assessing the situation at hand and directing the forces at his or her disspossal. But this will only work if people listened and did what they was asked to do. A strategy will only work if people that are executing it listen and do as they are told. The reason so many of our attempts at the dragon, relic keep raids and so forth is that no one does what they are asked to do, and so we are bound to failure even before we start the raid.

In all there are too many people wanting to be chiefs and not enough indians. This leads to confusion amoungst the ranks.

agreed, however there tends to be a lack of communication between groups when i've been in emain.

its basically one group charges off, everyone else follows and zerg till they run into a larger zerg, spend 5 mins engaged in a stareing contest then get wiped out.

so it would probably be difficult getting everyone to cooperate with each other, especially when we have more than one person that feels they know best.

still you need to have the idea before it can be put into effect, who knows maybe i'l be proved wrong and i honestly hope i am

At mikhail: Yes I know there was a gm cg, I was in it. If you read my post you’ll see that I said I found it to be a great (as in good, positive, [insert superlative]) thing.

My English may be confusing but ill try to sum up my post again:
I would like a chosen leader (call the leader what you want).
The leader should not be trying to get an overhead view of the situation.
Everyone should trough their gms give the leader intelligence and suggestions.
The leader should give commands and the rest will put their egos in the paper bin and do as is said.

Furthermore this leader don’t have to be the same person every time- we just need one person on these occasions to take command. We need our forces to work as a single body.

Everything in this world is built on cooperation, business companies, families, the human civilization and even life itself – if the cells of our body wouldn’t cooperate they would be walking off and every player on daoc-europe would be piles of goo.

Aye its a great idea, we done it back on the US,
We voted one person to be a commander, as everyone was just running around with out a clue, once we got it all sorted it was great, everythink he said we done, we made strike teams,

The best was are Grunt force, 5 berserkers,1 Skald,1Healer,
we made forces like that, putting certain classes in groups, It takes alot of timeing to do, But you most of the time, out-smart a zerg,

And make the enemy suffer to the full degree

I hear the public toilets work quite well in Albion, appart from that no not much at all. Unless you count the number of clean phones and hairdressers.

I guess the Goldrafinchiens cocked it all up when they arrived.

Why don't you all bugger off in Emain. Unlike most albs and mids seem to think, it is NOT neutral fighting territory!

Oh well ;)
