Rule Changes for Game #3?

I think the recent games should probably have had another wolf in them, or maybe the serial killer. The villagers won rather convincingly. Though maybe the wolves were just a bit shit. ;)

I do like the smaller games. And having more time to change your minds was a very good alteration to the pace, it was a lot more intersesting, though it did give the wolves a bit more rope to hang themselves with.

Any suggestions before the next round?

Serial Killer looks like a good one. I have seen in some mafia games the option to convert one of the townies. Something like that could be good in Werewolves. Basically the wolves have an option once in the game to convert someone at night. Could be rather than eating or as well as.

If the vigilante makes a mistake with his one shot - does it kill an innocent? Rubric took a very early shot (day 2?) ... just wanted to know if it could have had dire repercussions if he'd got it wrong?

Converting would have been nice in 2B ... I was all alone. However, it would have made the Wolves very powerful ... maybe it will only work in larger games?

If you have a serial killer - how could he win the game? What's his motivation? Last man standing is almost impossible to achieve ... unless the game continues after the wolves are killed and the villagers keep on burning people until the killer is killed as well?

Serial Killer is tough to play as you need to make sure you keep a balance when you are killing or you could win the game for either side.

If he had shot an innocent, he would have shot an innocent. And probably wouldn't have announced that he had done it. ;)

Well, the wolves seemed a little underpowered in this game. I think it would have to be a larger game, you would need to have more turns. I would do it instead of a kill, so the villagers would know what had happened.

Serial Killer would have to be last man standing. It would just keep going until they found the SK too.

Another role i have seen in mafia games is the bomb. Basically if someone tries to kill that person then they die. So if wolf goes to eat them then they could give them food poisoning or something lol. The person casting the deciding lynch vote is usually affected by this as well. So it could be someone with a gun say who kills a wolf that goes for them or pulls out a gun and kills the person doing the casting vote.

Lol - and if the 'bomb' carrier gets lynched then the resulting explosion kills a random villager!

I like it.

I think had Jup lasted another day it would have been a lot closer. Losing a wolf on day 2 was unfortunate ...

... having said that if Jup and I hadn't managed to swing the game to No Lynch at the end of Day 2 it could have been all over for us (since I was odds on to be lynched)

The seer made Jup on the first day. When he made the doctor too, it would have been all over pretty quickly imo. The odds were fairly stacked against you, even without a vig.

If you 'convert' a Seer ... can they still use their Seer powers for the Wolves?

If I did introduce the conversion, it would have to be either seer is immune, or power does not carry over.

I think too many rules/complications make it retarded.

Look at the first game - wolves won easily.

2A was a close game coming down to the last day, and 2B would have been a lot closer had jup not been shot very early on.

I thought the villagers won fairly easily. Well, I felt that the werewolves losing was inevitable the way the games turned out, though the lucky Vig shot probably helped in one game. I'm thinking either

a) Swap vig with SK
b) Leave as is, but add extra Werewolf

Either change moves the odds back to the wolves slightly. Though apparently 2 groups of 2 wolves competing is actually better for the villagers than 3 wolves.

Another option is to advise people of all the possible rules, and play the game blind, where they don't know the setup in advance. It adds another layer to the game.

I could also try running and simple game, and a more complex game, giving people the choice. Running 2 at once wasn't too bad.

rekon that would be great fun :)

I have to say game 2a was probably perfect, it really could have gone either way. The wolves I think were just not devious enough. The fact the seer lived long enough to reveal himself safely helped as well. It was what was missing from the first game.

I am willing to try anything though, we will now know the perfect mix until we try them all.

To be honest, I think the games should be mixed up a bit every time we play them. If we find a "perfect" setup, it's going to get old more quickly than if the set up is randomised.

So for one game, Will or any mod could throw a curveball for either side, maybe even mid-game?

Oh and the wolves need time to plan a strategy before day 1 starts.

I'll start signups maybe tomorrow, for a game starting next week.

Rubric, I pretty much assume they start discussing it as soon as the PM goes out. It certainly never takes them long to work out who to lynch, and I like to kick things off straight away while its fresh in my mind.

Depending on numbers, I'll maybe run one game with the very similar rules to before, and one with slightly more interesting rules. I'll let you give me a preference as to which game you want to play in the signup thread.

And the Vampire idea reminds me of a "The Thing" stylised game I've read about, with infections and testing. It'd play very differently from this one, but maybe it'd make a nice change.

Ah ok, i thought the rules were night time chatting only for those that can. Must be confusing with the mafia games i been playing lol.

The rules are that they aren't allowed to chat during the day. However, thats a carryover from the RL rules imo, and it works better if they are allowed to chat. I'll update the rules next time.

I know that people chat about the game outside the thread. Its impossible for me to do anything about that. I can't read your PMs. As long as people aren't being PMed specifically to change votes, or with specific discussion about why to vote for someone, then I don't really mind.

I think it might be interesting to see a bigger game, with an upper limit of players and more wolves, that would defintely add a new dimension to the levels of vote-swaying.

The random element is also good, as in 2B, I never knew if there was definitely a seer or not, and didn't want to make it obvious I was the Doc as a result.

I still like the 'convert' idea instead of a kill (maybe a one time only use?)

To counter that, maybe there could be another defence element for the villagers:

* each villager has a one use only 'hide'
* if the wolves visit their house they have used their 'hide' they aren't found and therefore survive the night

???
