he is a Man U Legend .

However it was a bit of a shock to see this on the news this morning.
What the manager has to remember , is that the club is bigger than him. and any other player.

Something Fergi doesn't always seem to realise.

Still Will be interesting to see where he goes , I'd say Celtic

Bad points

Over payed
Complete prick with his attitude
Didnt score much

Hope they get Ballack, else they're pretty fucked on their midfield.

Maybe Gravesen? ;p Not doing too well on his club, as the Spanish medias are ripping him apart.

As a Man Utd fan I'm gutted to see Keano leave.

He has been (imo) one of the best midfielders of the modern game. Most definately the best midfielder in the Premiership.

I think this is a money saving ploy by Man Utd.

Ballack is rumoured to be a hot favourite of Fergie. He is out of contract with Munich at the end of the season which leavs him free for a Bsoman.
This will of course mean clubs wont have to offer his club a transfer fee but the player will get additional monies via signing on fee and inflated wage deals.

Roy Keane was the club captain of Man Utd and in his contract came a "parity" clause where no other player can earn more money than Keane himself.

If Ballack is offered a contract in excess of Keanes current wage, Man Utd would have been legally bound to pay Keane at least the same as Ballack. This of course would not be a feasible option as Keane is 34 years of age.

Noone knows the true reason, the above is just my opinion. Time will tell the true reason as Keane is not the kind of person to hold back his thoughts and feelings.

:worthy: Keano:worthy:

Couldn't give a fuk, just another overpayed corporate whore leaves another money crunching business that daft bastards still think is football, the game died years ago.

You are watching the lifeless shell of a game, players only want to win so they can keep their earning power up, they don't give a fook who they play for and probably most of the time forget the name of the club.

As a Man Utd, he was great for us but as said above that was years ago.

Someone said that Ferguson needs to remember that he ain't bigger than the club. Well neither is Keano afaik - so adios matey, thx and bye.
:m00:

And I want to see Ballack at the club too :D

I partly agree with this. Remember the all conquering Liverpool team of the 80s? Dalglish, Keegan, Rush et al would of died for that club.

If he does go to Celtic then it should be interesting to watch.
I can think of a number of players up here, all from different teams, who would simply love the chance to see how high in the air they can kick him.
I dont think Roy Keane is a wimp either so the antics should be quite amusing to watch.

would like to know how many of these united fans with opinions have actually been to a game this season

roy keane is so over rated because hes just acts like a twat which apparently passes as captaincy, and most united fans obviously aspire to being twats

paul scoles is twice the player keane is, one of few united players to be under rated, maybe because he plays no nonsence football

I am a lifelong United supporter and a Mancunian by birth (yes there actually quite alot of us ;) ), was a season ticket holder for 12 years and watched Keane progress from a rough and ready midfielder into probably the greatest defensive midfielder United have ever had. The guy is a legend and shall remain so.

Now all that said lets discuss why he went and the pro's/con's for United.

Firstly they have lost a world class defensive midfielder, that said though he has had perhaps 4 good games in the last 12 months and is now becoming a liabilty as far as injuries are concerned. He is also taking £100,000 in wages a week and has barely played half the games in the last 2 years, financially it just doesn't make sense to offer him anything other than a pay-per-play contract considering his age and injury record. Now Keano has flat out refused that idea and is not prepared to take a substantial wage reduction either in exchange for a 2 year extension so he has definately been playing hardball over a new contract these last 3 weeks

Now throw United's poor form into the equation and the public bollocking he gave the team (deservedly I might add) and you can see how his postition became impossible. It is the second time in 6 months that he has seriously pissed Fergie off, he is also no longer on speaking terms with either Rio Ferdinand or Liam Miller, it is totally understandable why United wanted rid and Keano felt he was unable to stay.

Personally I think both sides win. United are now forced to replace him with a world class central midfielder in January whilst also freeing up £100,000 a week, it makes a whole lot of sense to get rid of a player earning that much who would be lucky to play before Christmas and even then he would be unable to play more than 60% of the games due to fitness. Better to make the break now and use the extra funds to entice another top class player into club.

Keane wins too, he gets his lifelong dream of 2 years playing at Celtic earning top notch wages. He gets 2 more years of potential Champions Leauge football and gets to play in a much much easier domestic league which can only benefit both himself and Celtic. Even with his history of injuries and his age he would still be by far the best midfielder in the Scottish Premier League, he will cope with the pace of Scottish football much easier.

Personally I expected him to go in January, regardless though I think it was going to happen within 6 months and at least this way the club save alot of cash on his wages for the time he would be out injured.

Gravesen is my bet if they can't get Ballack, personally I would like us to get Gravesen regardless of who else they buy. The guy was awesome for Everton and his aggressive playign style is ideally suited for English football.

In 2005 you are spot on, 8 years ago though Keane was the best defensive midfielder on the planet. Gerrard and Lampard are not defensive midfielders so of course they excel in other areas but neither of them could ever hope to cover the defensive dutys in the way that Keano did. Both are much better going forward though, it is swings and roundabouts.

Sadly I am slowly turning as bitter as you ;) Football has seriously lost it pull for me in the last 3 years, the whole ethos of football in England has changed for the worse.

Nope but he did have a set-to with Fergie in Portugal though during pre-season, that got very heated and if they hadn't been seperated it would have probably led to a punchup. Poor old Fergie would be in the next bed to George Best ;)
