Looks like the European Space Agency is doing a live webcast of the Rosetta Comet Landing tomorrow night from 7pm.

Could be worth a little watch. I imagine it's going to be quite a slow affair but at the end you're either gonna have a successful landing (cool) or an explosion :)

Comes in too fast knocks comet out of orbit..4 billion people on a small blue rock blissfully unaware that this comet and their home is now on a collision course for armaggedon.

Will try to watch some of this if I can. This whole mission has amazed me, the precision of getting the probe onto an intercept course and the time scales involved is just astounding.

If the landing isn't accompanied by Michael Bay-style crash zooms, strobing lights and "hold on I'm taking her in" soundbites, I'm going to be disappointed.

Not wanting to derail this thread, this is a perfect example of what we can do as part of Europe. An amazing achievement even if it explodes on impact.

I wish the music was less continental though...

Amazing achievement, I really hope they get some interesting data rather than, oh its made of iron and boring rock.

I want to see elements dammit!

Hmm... they can't confirm it's staying yet... anchors apparently didn't fire....

Anchors is such a shit description.

Harpoons fired, so I guess that means the lockdown drills.

So, two of the three things designed to help it land failed and it's now sat there literally hanging by a couple of theads.

Hopefully that won't compromise the science too much...

I thought I heard them say the harpoons (sorry) didn't fire so it's basically just sitting there. Relatively small compression of the landing gear dampers suggesting a soft landing though... will it stay put?

As long as it manages to plant the Euro flag I'll be happy.
