Anyone else watched this yet? It's a new series in the states set in Rome at the end of the republic, 1st episode is just after Alesia.

Seems fairly accurate (if you care!) otherwise it's still good :)

Only 3 eps available so far, but its something to watch til Lost starts again

Yup, seems pretty good so far. Apparently BBC will show this later this year if anyones interested.

A warning to anyone using bittorrent etc: HBO love playing silly games sending folks bad data and throwing fake files around. Dont be surprised to see 'odd' things if your trying to obtain this ;)

Looks good. I'm not downloading them though because public trackers have aids. Looks like I'm waiting for BBC to show them.

A solution for the bad trackers. Get something called PeerGuardian2 (Opologies if this is a very well known peice of software). It sits between your internet connection and torrent app and blocks connects from bad seeders. Worked a treat for Rome for me and boy does it block a lot of connections.

There's a manual list that needs adding, but I'll let you find that on your own.

The SafePeer plugin for Azureus is easier to manage and uses the same IP blocklist as PeerGuardian.

How historically accurate is the series?

Hmmm.... I'll have to try that cause my torrent of episode 3 is stuck at 99.8% :(

Having no difficulty getting them off emule, already have 1/2 of episode 4.

A friend of mine is telling me the series is fairly historically accurate so far, in terms of the political events that are happening, as for the rest, well it's a tv show isn't it!

That probably depends how much detail you know of roman history.

For me its good enough: so far theres nothing that leaves you screaming 'thats not right ...'. Reasonably accurate historical dramas are not what you normally expect from US TV, but so far this is damn good.

And Ch3tan, the traditions of HBO and Oz are alive and well: theres too much male nudity in this too :eek7: Either the BBC will edit this or it will be hidden away late night on BBC2. Shame really.

was laffing me arse off when cesar suffers a fit, and his nephew and slave have to hide him, and the screaming makes the cook think they are having 3 some gh3y fest

Chilly: :twak:

Clown: 4 so far. DVD rips depends what your seeing, probably just the result of someone recording it from TV->DVD.

Either a trailer, or they are showing 'next weeks' episode on their on-demand thingy: in a similar way channel4 do with C4/E4. They did that at the start (ep2 available immediately after 1 was shown), dunno if they still are.

I've yet to try usenet. Do you just search the usergroups your ISP links you to, or is there a need to subscribe to a usergroup service?

Rome is definately an entertaining show, though the nudity is mostly unecessary.

Of course I assume everyone knows that he becomes Emperor Octavius...

HBO seem to have been up to some funny business about downloading Rome, so much so that I had to finally start using IPFilters on emule!
