Rolling an SB

Im rolling an SB becuase i like the idea of being able to Solo a bit in RvR, unike me healer which to be effective really needs a group. Not to say you cant group as a SB but you have the option to solo.

I think with the LA nerf SZ is out of the question, so its either 5-spec or CB.

Id like to spec a CB but i remeber hearing that if you dont put 30~ points into LA you wont ever hit with both or the damage will be a joke. Does this mean if i spec CB im doomed to use a 2hander ? :(

And my other question, ive been told 5-specs rely on LA styles after PA+CD combo, does this mean that the spec is a bit gimped ?

Dont flame me if i make mistakes im a total SB noob :p

Edit: What i want is a SB that uses 2 axes(not a sz) rather than a 2hander

50axe 39cs 34stealth/env

Use 2axes with bane(or lesser until you reach rr6) and str/con debuff(or whathaveyou).

With two axes your PA cap is around 7xx and with a 2h it's around 9xx.

So when you're doing the PA, decide wether you want the extra 200 or add another poison on them.

Imo it sucks bigtime that the PA with 2h is only 200 more than with a 1h :(

SO .. I would recommend you to go with two 1h, will let you land 2poisons and almost the same dmg as with a 2h. And the str/con debuff on your offhand axe will take off at least 200hp with the 118 debuff, as well as reducing their str and thus their dmgoutput (if you decide to try your luck at that roaming paladin etc)

And when you're fighting, you've got the following rather good combos garrote/ah (150-200dmg depending on resists etc) havoc/tyrs might (150ish) hamstring/leaper

The hamstring/leaper combo uses the least endurance, but requires an evade to trigger.
Havoc is frontpos-style but in 1on1 that won't be a problem.
Garrote/AH uses alot of end but has a lowlvl-snare and an attackspeed-debuff, tho this is your only anytimer so you might wanna have garrote/ah avaliable on your QB if your opponent likes to strafe around and running through you alot.

[edit: typos etc]

rather go 50 sword 39 cs 34 envenom/stealth

50 sword gives you ragnarok that is a very nice style

people seem to think LA is good like, but the truth is the god like style double frost makes u out of end within about 5-6 swings so over time the infil or what ever your fighting is gonna do wayyy more damage they your do once your ooe. but like everything else good in the game the whine got it nerfed. after the patch sb's will prolly hit about the same maybe abit less then infils and be ooe within a few swings while the enemy has 1/2 of his end still

let the flames begin:D:flame: :flame: :flame:

The damage of a slash-specced infiltrator is even to the damage of a shadowzerker if both are unbuffed or buffed. Btw. nobody forced you to spec thrust if you say that shadowblades do 30% more damage than you. ;)

Midgard Leather --> resistant to thrust.
Albion Leather --> neutral to slash.

Now guess why SBs do more damage on you

Well LA is godlike in the fashion that you can kill a non-ip-wielding char in 4-5 hits (dmg whops out at ~200 per blow, unless you're uberbuffed but that's not relevant), only downside is that once you've done those 4-5 swings with Doublefrost (that and frostygaze, the 2nd in the evade/stun combo, which are the only reasons for speccing LA at all) you're quite ooe and easy pray, even a healerclass could kill you then, since our low skillpoints vs the many different thing you have to specc in as SB, we'll end up with a very low weapskill.

So the summa of the kardemumma is:

preLAnerf 5specc rocked.

postLAnerf 5specc wont rock as much, they took 30% off the dmg, so now you'll be hitting for ~140 instead of ~200, and still only be able to swing 4-5 times until you're ooe.

and on startup ... 15Str 10Con ;)

you'll have plenty of Dex and Qui once you hit 50 anyway.

if there gonna nurf LA so much give is a either 2.5 spec points so we can get reasonable skill level in all lines needed to be effective. or give us a new duel wield line all togeather one with similar mechanics to DW/CD.

personally the first option is easier for them to do.

actually, if you land your PA (or any decent hit for that matter) the debuff wont actually remove any hp. Sure it will lower their max hp with about 200, but that doesn't help when you have already done 400-500 damage in the PA as the poison takes effect after the attack

but the debuff is still a good poison to use, it does lower the enemy's damage output quite a bit.

as for the speccing matter, with the LA nerf I actually think 5-specs is out of the question, just seems to me that anything below 50 LA is going to suck bigtime. And yes, as a critblade you'll prolly be force to use 2h, with 1 LA spec you'll get about 30-40% damage reduction (don't quote me on this, can't remember the exact numbers) when dual wielding, although we do have some SB's that have a critblade like spec and use 2 weapons to great success

It removes ~200 from his/her total HP pool, so I think it's a fair statement that I made, you don't have to hit him/her for that extra 200 as they been removed. :)

Care to explain this theory of yours?

Lanf doesnt work like that, debuff reduces Constitution, therefore their HP cap, if their hp cap is reduced by 200 but you did damage via PA before the Debuff takes effect, all it does is lowers the cap and their Str. It doesnt do ANY damage.

eg:

1500hp Inf

500PA + -200HP cap

= 1000 hp on Inf and his cap is reduced to 1200, you have done no damage to him

like solid said (except that his math is a bit off, prolly meant 1300hp and not 1200:))

but lemme explain anyway
when you hit someone, notice how the text describing the poison comes after the text saying how much you hit for like in this example, where I would attack someone with DoT poison on my sword and debuff on my hand axe

you perform your Perforate Artery perfectly. (+345)
you attack Enemy with your sword and hit for 467 damage
Enemy is poisoned
you hit Enemy for 71 damage
you attack Enemy with your axe and hit for 41 damage
Enemy looks weaker

Which mean the poison is applied AFTER the attack itself.

so if I was attacking an Infiltrator with 1500 hp max, I would first do 467 damage from the PA, then 71 for the first tick in the poison, then 41 for my offhand swing, making it a total of 579 damage, which would leave him at 921 hp (his max hp would still be 1500)

first then would the debuff poison take effect, and it would lower is con and therefore his MAX HP, still leaving him at 921 hp, but now with max hp of only 1300

now, had I only done about 100 damage (including DoT and offhand) in the first attack, it would have left him at 1400 hp when the debuff took effect, and then it would have lowered his max hp to 1300 and therefore also his current, effectively doing 100 damage

hence why I said:
if you land your PA (or any decent hit for that matter) the debuff wont actually remove any hp.

your better off using your str/con debuff on your mainhand and DoT on the offhand. reason ?

after your first weapon hits the 2nd weapon if it hits the DoT will tick on there lower hp pool instead of the max hp pool if you did it the other way around.

Plus if they are using weapons that base off strength then they will hit you for less damage. Oh.. that is a very real advantage enemies have over us.

Critblades were good before SC and the one shot stealth pop bug. I was crit blade until level 40 when I grew into a 5 spec. Critblades are good for zerging, but youll struggle to beat anyone 1 v 1 (unless your already high RR) - especially your natrual enemy (casters) who will QC stun you - PBT also wrecks crit blades.

..and yes - the only stun you get is from PA/CD or BS2 (as a sword user - dont know about axe line)

Good huh.. :(

no need for any other stun aslong as you make that PA-CD combo.. tho it dosent always turn out as you intend all the time

read my explanation again please, if your first attack did decent damage, you wont get any benefit from the targets lowered maxhp, whether your dot is on mainhand or offhand weapon doesn't really matter then, as long you did more damage in your first attack then the debuff would remove in hp.

but as svaralf says, the real reason to use the debuff is to lower the str of the enemy and make him weaker
