First off, its unprofessional conduct and he deserved to be sent off

Yes its a shame he fucked up his last appearance etc, but its his own fault.

Zidane probably wanted to butt him on the nose, but he would have faced criminal charges over that. A poncy little tap would have looked silly. So he did the next best thing in his opinion. Ok so in fighting terms it was ghey, and the Italian dude looked a pussy going down like that.

Bottom line its conduct unbefitting for the professional football field. End of.

Grats to Italy BTW

The image of him walking past the world cup after being sent off is one of the enduring legacies of this tournament

The guy's retired. He's still one of the best players in the world. He's a multi multi millionaire. It's not as bad as what Cantona did IMO. He'll get over it. So will we. Eventually.

Im sorry, I just cannot see how you can hit the floor like that from being headbutted in the chest. Wasnt even a proper headbut, was more like a shove using his head. Another blatant dive.

+ i think it is a way to end a career, its not the first time italy meets france in a world cup final and materazzi probably didnt act like a gentleman in any other match (ever...) so maybe it was the last time they'd meet and he wouldnt let the chance to go waste so in some sense i understand, but it was stupidly done.

Viewed through rose-tinted glasses, the World Cup is *supposed* to be all about good sportsmanship, fair play, and - of course - bloody good entertaining football.

There were some terrific games. But for me certain incidents have lodged in my mouth, taken a dump in it, and left a somewhat unpleasant residue coating my teeth.

Eg:

- Argentina gracefully accepting their defeat against germany
- Faking injuries, diving, and generally acting unsportsmanlike
- Giving the same man 3 yellow cards
- Zidane's belly butt

Any others ?

Crouch being more famous for being photoshopped than for his football abilities.

He fucked his team over in the same manner Rooney did, no wonder you like it and flame the Italian guy like you did with Ronaldo. See the pattern?

lol, it has nothing to do with that. Most of us aren't even from france. But check the videoes of what he has done in his past, and you might know why we hate him so much.

I dont really think it mattered him getting sent off it did not really hurt france he may have scored his penalty but Trez might have still missed.

Its true it was deffo a sending off but the fact the 4th official gave it makes a mockery of all the other headbuts, did it cross the line didn't it situations where they say video evidence can't be used.

its really sad that zidane acted the way he did.. It was the last match of his life, it was a world cup final and he was (is) a respectable player. I just can see the point of doing what he did under the sircumstances! Even tho the italian guy deserved it, its not worth it..

Think about the consequeses of what he did! He will probably loose alot of his sponsorships, and he lost the respect from alot of fans out there..

What a sad way to end a perfect career:(

Do you actually live in the same world as me? generally when someone famous does something bad, e.g. do drugs or hurt people they get more attention which leads to companies wanting to use them more which equals more money!!!!!

While his career was fantastic he has been sent off for aggressive behaviour before. I respect him more for putting the wanker down tbh. His penalty showed us why he has been one of the greatest footie players in the last decade.

hehe this is nice

""Marco had told me he had been provoked. It's as though they have something against him each time.

"In the past two years, Marco has only been on the receiving end and the injuries he has sustained are proof of this. "

If rumours of the insult going round are true then i dont blame him for his reaction. And if it can be proven what was actually said by video footage + lip reading then FIFA should be banning the italian guy (Cant be arsed to spell his name) for a minimum of one year international football, preferably a minimum of one year football in general (club/europe and international).

The rumours are that it was racist insults (hmm, didnt they have the teams saying there no place for it in football in quarter finals? ) and pushed on the lines of Zidane and his parents being terrorists because of their algerian nationality. If it remotely close to the truth the guy deserves to be banned himself.
