Rem: To AMS Drivers

Please please please lock your ams's to you only or your squad.

Time and time again I see a noob run the wrong way and toggle deployment then a reaver comes along and says in his cockpit "mmmm 1 ams happy meal to take away please".

it's annoying that it resets itself every time you get a new AMS :(

Everytime you die it reverts to Empire.

Also, please make sure not to park your AMS in stupid positions.

Today I respawned at an AMS parked next to a wall so that no-one could get out of one side.

I also see people time and time again parking AMSes somewhere in plain view.

Although I do admit I mainly see this on the yank servers.

AMS is the ultimate decoy.. drive though a packed base in one and half the base (plus all the vehicles) will chase you \o/.

Finding a good hiding spot that's close to the base, but the stream of emerging soldiers won't give it away is quite hard in some places. And the good locations are the ones that are always used, so are just as useless (first thing I check when attacking a base are the usual inside spots for one.. under the bridges, behind the vehic ramp at tech centers etc)

Idiots going afk infront of a spawn tube, not using favourites and therefore spending half an hour at the equpment term, or undeploying the AMS by accident are a pain too.

yeah driving into a base from the side the enemy are supplying it from is fun ;) especially if you can crush a max or two on the way *cackles*

the amount of firepower an AMS attracts is pretty impressive :) (almost as impressive as the amount it can take before going boom)

I think most of these use favorites. it is just very laggy. I know, cause I play on a ISDN connection. If there are alot of players and action in the area, it can take up to 20 sec to get my gear. This is because my connection cannot handle the network traffic spike that ocours when one respawn.

So please don't get mad at me if I take my time at the eq terms :)

Awkwardly parked AMS's can be amazing. I've spawned a few times on a steep slope and have been catapulted huge distances due to the weird bug. One time I leap-frogged a huge enemy force and landed next to a tower. Managed to kill a couple before they descended upon me. There were as surprised as I was :D

I know that can be the case.. I spent the last 2 weeks playing on 56K and could take a whole long time to actually get the terminal to respond. It's the ones that swap their armour, then 1 weapon, then the other, etc.. that are obviously not using well configured favourites.

I think some of you need to lay off the AMS drivers for their choice of locations.

You have to (or should) take a few things into account when deploying an AMS, especially outside a base.

Firstly, they need to be out of range of base auto turret fire, not as easy as it sounds as those bad boys seem to keep shooting when your miles off.

Secondly, make sure you deploy it away from any roads, Sunderers and the likes tend to stick to paths and as you know, get close enough to it and you'll see it.

Last but not least, try not to park the ams on a direct route between a tower and a base, you'll find that should you lose the tower or the get pushed back to it, all of a sudden shit loads of troops are running into your AMS on the way to their target.

When you take all that into consideration there isn't too many places left to put one without going so far from the base it becomes ineffective so i do sympathise with why some of them have to be deployed where they are.

As for people putting one half against a wall or the people who undeploy them while your trying to load up, just can't explain the actions of some i'm afraid, it is annoying tho.

NC and TR AMS drivers never do any of this stuff *cough* ;)

I know positioning an AMS isn't always easy, but I have seen some very very stupid mistakes recently. I used to set up AMSes a lot and it's fairly easy to avoid placing it right next to a tree, or backed up to a wall etc.

I wasn't blasting AMS drivers in general, just those that don't think where they're deploying the damn thing.

Find TR doing this a lot...

Sat on a hill sniping at the onrushing Terrans earlier today when their AMS un-deploys and speeds off with 100 nekkid Terrans running after it, funny as hell :)

yep been in a mediumish tower battle where no one was particularly gaining ground but it was good for both sides, lots of killing lots of mines. Both our posistions were heavily defended. Then some n00b possibly the AMS owner, decided to move it about 25 meters closer away from the cover of the hillside AND in full view of tower guns and all the TR MAXS locked down on the roof. It lasted about 3 minutes with me and 2 other engineers constantly fixing it. we had allready fought off about 5 reavers and they had stopped coming back. Some people just dont seem to get it, he prolly thought he was doing us all a favour so we could respawn closer...... a 45min fight wasted cos of one guys suicidal ams movement.

I've got a pet niggle with AMS drivers, im tempted to cert in AMS to solve it mostly.

those fools who buy an AMS from a hacked vehicle pad in a hacked base, let it auto-drive out then stop it when they get manual control and deploy it SMACK BANG WHERE YOU GAIN CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE.

i've lost count of how many friendly AMS's ive wasted like that. :(

Don't think I've seen that happen before..

.. but what gets me is a situation like the other day.

At a base, running around with my infil, fairly heavy incoming (terrans, I -THINK-), but not too busy yet.

I run up to base, ooo look they've an AMS just outside north wall, not busy at moment, whip out hacking tool, 1 jacked AMS later, make way around to back door...

.. hang on a moment, they have ANOTHER ams here.. ok, it's not too busy either.. another jacked AMS later.. decide to run into courtyard (can't remember why at the time), notice a THIRD ams in the courtyard.

OK, let's go for the triple.. oh dear they've mined it, one dead infil.

Respawn at one of my jacked AMS' - wow they haven't destroyed it yet, still that's good. Squad message "AMS at my location can we jack it" "oh, yeah the one in the courtyard's mined to hell and back, can't get near it" says I. "No, the one at MY position".

And they had actually got -5- AMS' in and around this base, where there wasn't even that heavy resistance. And that's only the 5 we found and jacked or destroyed!

Sometimes I think they go over the top, personally :p

There is a minimum range that 2 AMS's can be deployed from each other, not sure what that range is, but if a faction can put up 5 AMS at one base, it needs increasing.

Can get two inside a base maximum if they are at opposite ends. Then the others will need to be a fair distance outside the base walls though.

Experienced this a lot when trying to place one and someone beat me to it, I usually then end up just suiciding it and running lots of people over or just deconstructing it. (never leave one undeployed or an inf will just jack and deploy there)
