There are many people (regulars) on this board who are from ethnic backgrounds. Let's not get into a rascist argument.
I have no problem with immigration through proper channels. We do live in a Global Society. Races are dispersed around the world. This DOES benefit each and every society. Not just economically, but culturally too.
But this immigration must be controlled to prevent abuse.

For me its not a question of racism.i live in an area with a very high asian population,i got no(t much) problem with that.when i walk down my street i'm as likely to see an asian lad wearing an england football shirt as a white one,know what i mean.
however England is a veery small country.it has 56 million ppl living in it.is there the space for more? no there bloody aint m8.try living in the southeast it is congested beyond all reason.We CANNOT keep letting ppl come into our country in this manner,then supply all the money to keep them.it is not viable in any way.most ppl are just after a better life as someone just said,thats fair enough, but not of my back if u dont mind.
oh , and the person talking about south africa? well theres a lot of them over here nowadays aint there?and rhodesians.maybe ppl dont remember when that country cut off all ties with th UK so it could go on exploiting the native ppl of that country.now the black are knocking fuck out of 'em, they want to come back!

What do you think we are, a third world country? With the currently aging population, an wave of immigrants is what we need to support us when we get all old and pensionable. Keep the age demographic nice and balanced.

Let's get back to the Asylum seekers and away from race issues in general shall we?
I do know that places like Dover and parts of the Kent coastal towns have been decimated by the influx of refugees. One of my mates had so much trouble moving house cos no one wants to live in that area anymore.
Dispersion is NOT the answer cos it makes it more difficult to trace them after they go missing.
I think the government has to seriously think about detention with no liberties once a refugee comes in and is caught. They should then be fastracked out in under 2 weeks rather than 6 months.
What pisses me off is these refugees are often seen carrying their children begging on London Underground. This sort of behaviour just adds fuel to the Far Right's cause which is the last thing we need.

Remember, Australia has detention camps, which have been condemmed by the UN. And can you really see a two week turnaround lasting long in Britain? Look at the NHS...

And been Scottish society does tend towards a more socialist point of view. My views haven't really changed since I was 19, but Labour has shifted away from me. I'll vote Liberal, SNP or SSP, depending on the individual candidates.

Personally instead of trying to pass off the refugees to another sucker / country we should take a close look at where there coming from and sort that place out.
It doesn't help to have people running countries who dismiss the entire world as being 'evil' and them being they greatest country in it.
Saddam <sp> should have been removed when things started going bad in that country instead they have a maniac as a ruler, who is developing weapons to try and wipe everything off the planet while lying to its population as more and more flee the place because the country is running out of money and can't support its population.
We have a country were self proclaimed war veterans are killing people to take back 'their' land yet all there succeeding in doing is ruining there economy and creating unrest in the population.
There's only two things that cause war: Politics / Religion
