Have to admit it does seem the same old shit, guess it comes down to the fact no one is doing any thing about it.

It's a tricky one this.

I am sure that 99.99% of refugees are just after a better life rather than escaping from persecution.

Thing is, that other 0.01%.

My view?

I would not allow any in unless they apply through proper channels. Why? Because I think the line has to be drawn. Although that 0.01% of genuine asylum seekers would not be helped, so what?!

Lots and lots of people die in 3rd world countries. It's just one of those things. We can't help ALL suffering people can we?

Sometimes you just have to turn a blind eye.:(

My view.

Thats the problem....while so many are allowed to come it'll be a simple solution, block them all from coming and thus you end up stopping the genuine asylum seekers.

I'm on the very liberal end of the scale, and here's my tuppence worth.
I believe that we should accept these asylum seekers with open arms. We are all descended from immigrants, and so we have little to stand on when saying "No, piss off, you don't belong here"
France is not dealling with the asylum seekers arriving at it's doors, but that should be dealt with politically, not by punishing the asylum seekers themselves.
And a far larger number than 0.01% of the asyulm seekers are genuine. Do you not read the news? Can you spell T-a-l-e-b-a-n? Or g-e-n-o-c-i-d-e?

No, but surely we can try and help as many as possible. I always hate these kind of discussions anyway, having worked in the housing department for a local government it annoys me when ppl say that '99.9%' of the people abuse the situation etc ...

True, there are those that abuse the situation, but there are also alot more that seriously DO need the help than lots of people realise, some of the storys from people fleeing persecution etc are rather disturbing, not to mention very saddening, especially in the sense that we ( the human race), are actually capable of doing that to one another :(

lol - spin doctors rule the superficial news media that is full of self promoting headlines "danger in our water" and you can see this half arsed documentary with loads of pictures of blood and ppl smashing things up after 10 hours of soaps. once we have told you that the soap after this news lol program is showing so much pron it's been put on after 9 at night .... and also a bird was wearing a very short skirt at a premiere of another gash film.

and look at all the pictures of ppl running about near a tunnel and here comes a train..

Look at it this way.

If you are genuine Asylum seeker then surely the main aim is to just get out of your country asap.

This means if you are from say Taleban, Iraq or China once you get to a safe haven you apply for asylum there!

Does this not mean that if you are from the Gulf or Balkans it is easier and safer to go to Germany, Greece or Italy or France beacuse they are nearer?

Why do they make the extra effort and risk their lives (in the Channel tunnel or under lorries) coming to this little island nation?

Could it be because UK is seen as a soft touch?

Think about it.

i blame all the "carry on" films and the bbc world service for making the uk sound like a place full of ppl that would welcome them with opens arms and also give them money and a house ! ..... this subject is not black and white and it's even harder to sit on the fence. oh my piles

And who are we to say if they'll leach off the country? Just look at our council estates for an example of that. But that's not the direction to take with this arguement. Most immigrants get vouchers instead of cash, hardly luxury. They get given housing that is so bad, only people with no choice will take it, and then they get beaten up and killed, since they are regarded as worthless by certain sections of society. Then we get Torys and Labour fighting over who can be the shittest toward the immigrants.
Grrr... It makes me MAD!!!!!!111

What annoys me is that, if theyre trying to escape from war and wotever, why dont they just linve in france, or germany, or any of the other civilised contrys they meet (compared to they're home countries, you understand). I mean, why trek all the way over to England when were so overcrowded when the other countries are just as suitable.

Because that's what France and Germany etc want them to do.
I suppose it also helps that English is a very commonly spoken language. Would you want to live somewhere that you couldn't understand anything people were saying, could read or write in that language?

We still give them a shit load more than they would ever recieve in their own countries and thus we get the load of economic refugees...send em packing.

When they enter the country them should all be stuck in detention centers and fast tracked through the system. All those not found to be genuine should be shipped back to there own countries and any attempt to re-enter this country should see them go to jail.

As others have pointed out, why not go to other countries...coz this country has national healthcare, etc etc and is seen as a soft touch. Jesus christ it's the furthest country away from most of these asylum seekers countries.

What pisses me off more than anything is the other countries in this so called EU are only too happy to pass the problem of refugees on to the UK.

i hate it when people such as indians and the like try to kick US out of our own city's because they claim to be abused, i think they should honestly FUCK OFF back to their homeland if they dont like it here, a bit off subject but related to peeps looking for a better life.

on the subject of immigrants, recently there was a thing in australia about immigrants and i thought to myself, talk about taking advantage of a situation!! i said to peeps that they should effing sod off... This is the kind of thing that starts wars:( If only Utopia were true

Hmm just a little harsh and racism is not to be confused with a loathing of economic migrants just in case people start banding me as a racist.

Because they want to live with the rest of their nation, in Hackney and Tooting.

well could it also be that the uk DID NOT SIGN the full social charter of the eu. not the social chapter as the previous government would have us think. thus to get a job at £0.50 per hour working somewhere with no I.D. for 200 hours a week is ok in the UK. And thus our taxes are high to pay for this. and also our veg is cheap in the supermarkets as it's picked by ppl on £0.50 an hour in the UK.
