Yeah I thought the same, lack of laughter was noticeable.

It's a 3 parter, it's got to set things up. There were some classic moments. "Will you keep the noise down back there" being one

I wasn't impressed, it was okay, but nothing really laugh out loud funny.

Quite enjoyed it. The "testicle" bits made me crease up for some reason that only the inner child in me can answer. Rob Llewellen is saying we really need to see all 3, it does apparently get better. Lot's of people are slating it entirely - fair enough, taste is taste and they can go an enjoy their James Corden and Ricky Gervais style comedy.

The only thing that really gets on my tits are people saying they "miss the canned laughter" - there's never been any canned laughter in any of them. And the only thing in the show that really got on my nerves?

Fake russian accents. Every time Ms. Winkleman spoke, I kept wanting to visit comparethemeerkat.com :D

I loved the fact that it still looked the same, good continuity (sp) I agree that it needs to be seen as a whole, all 3 parts, but all in all i thought it was good, not great, but it could have been a lot worse

Well no it wasn't canned laugher as most of the scenes took place on the same sets in the studio so they were actually in front of an audience. Or at least thats what it looked like in the behind the scenes stuff. Now its mostly green screen stuff so no audience.

It actually scares me to think of when the last series of red dwarf finished, it doesn't seem that long ago to me, but 10 years. I remember going to the cinema to watch blade 2 and thinking 'isn't that the cat from red dwarf?' and that was 2002.

I really enjoyed it, I think the lack of canned laughter probably made a difference just from what most people are used to.

You are making a huge assumption. I liked the humour in the early red dwarf, last night just seemed forced.

I think it is probably one of those shows that was best left in the past, although they do still have time to save it with the next two episodes.

They really shouldn't have released them as 3 small episodes. After ~22 minutes of watching the episode I was left with "wtf?".

I suppose I'm just used to the typical US 1 hour episodes, which tend to be 42-44 minutes after adverts.

No Ch3t I agree, it did seem tired and a little forced. I was rather expecting that though bearing in mind how old some of these folks are :D

Is it best left in the past? Not sure. I'd probably say it is, as nice as it is to see them reuinted. Like Only Fools and Horses, people regard the end of that was when they get 6.2 million between them, and mostly disregard the efforts afterwards (wasn't that an easter/christmas one off thing too?)
The same may well happen here, but there's more to come so we can't really slate it too much yet :)

Nah, only fools was shit when they lost all the money, they should never have done those episodes.

With this, we're judging it before its over. The episode wasn't the funniest thing ever, not by a long shot. It was far too easy to miss the Holly explanation given. The humour to me seemed like a gentle reminder of some of the style and hopefully tonight they'll "dive right in" as it were.

I did like the "I Heart the Broom Cupboard" sticker though... lol

I thought it was fair enough, but they need more sniping between them.

Anyone notice that the DOG in the top left changed from "Dave" to "Dave Lister"? :)

And did anyone else think the d-gun looked kind of like the gun from Portal?

Well after first 2 episodes i'm thoroughly unimpressed. Last episode will have to be something extremely special to turn it around.

I'm sort of feeling the same way, though it's got me wondering... Dave has put an awful awful lot into this... too much for it to just be a bit shit... plus they keep mentioning seasons 9 & 10?

im enjoying it so far its not the same as before because tehres no live audience and i feel that really helped make it in teh first few series

that been said i am really enjoying the show its not hilarious but there have been some really good smirk moments which i expect from red dwarf im looking forward to the final ep tommorow and i think there could be another season i think they are using these 3 eps to see how the viewing public react and see if its a hit think depending on that we may see another season

not sure if that would be a good thing or not

Todays was better than yesterdays, and I enjoyed that. Thoroughly enjoyed this one, although it was very, very weird all the way through. The plot is deep (too deep for Dwarf if anything). Some good little cameos throughout that other Dwarf fans will have picked up too :D

Still enjoying it, maybe through red tinted glasses but still :D

That was mine and Mycenae's friend's comic shop in Richmond in tonights episode :D

Thought the episode was interesting - will reserve final judgement until tomorrow. Some of the acting has been a little stilted but kind of understanding given they haven't been together for so long. Also some cast members (Cat and Rimmer) are showing their age more than the others.

See I prefered the first one. Cats begining bit and the 'testicles' bit had me crying with laughter.

What I have always liked about The Dwarf is the stuff between the 4 of them and the ridiculous Sci fi stuff so I am not sure about them being on Earth...
... and where is Holly?

Sorry, but Doug Naylor, without Rob Grant, just isn't very funny.

The first six series were excellent, but seven and eight were very average, and these episodes on dave are worse (ending up on Coranation farm or whatever, in the second episode, please!). Same goes for the books, the originals were great, but the seperately written sequals just lost the magic.

It's not a classic but it's making me happy to see it again.

It's obviously been filmed as one long episode and chopped up crudely - but there's still enough funny in there for me to be glad they did it, rather than not.

Looking forward to part 3 tonight :)
