Self Defence
I think its important to remember that a high percentage of fights will end up on the ground. In these situations, styles like jitsu, judo, and wrestling have an advantage over the primary kick and punch styles.
Judo's great, but you can't count on having enough time to lock someone up or throw them. Wrestling also has its advantages, but I'm not sure a wrestler will be able to disarm someone who's trying to stab you in the face with a weapon.
You've also got to remember that a lot of situations preclude you from doing big moves - that's when you need a style which teaches you effective close-up work. I've done door security work at a few pubs and clubs - you need quick, effective techniques in such situations.
Perhaps the MOST important thing you'll learn is perception awareness - how to avoid trouble before it occurs. Its not always possibly to avoid or diffuse problems, but with some training, common sense, and the right attitude, you will be more aware of who and what's around you - and that can save lives.
If anyone wants more details on jui-jitsu, PM me. We have clubs all over the UK - loads in London.

Best for selfdefence and actual streetfights are probably juijitsu, judo, kickboxing and wrestling.
