Unless you've been living under a stone or don't have Facebook, you've probably heard about the "get Rage Against The Machine to number 1" storm on Facebook which has amusingly got RATM's Killing In The Name Of outselling Joe Fannybawz's crap.

Just wondering what the Freddies think of this? At the end of the day, it's lining Sony's pockets whatever the outcome.

Personally, the fact that paying a quid for the RATM song pissed off smug twat Cowell actually fills me with amusement and satisfaction; and for him to patronise the public by accusing those who bought RATM's song for doing a disservice to Joe Fannybawz (and ruining it for him) makes me hate Cowell even more - he'll be thrown away, gone and forgotten by the time next Christmas comes along. It's insulting that he pretends to give a fuck.

That said, hats off to him, great business man; he's made a fucking fortune out of it.

This. It's as stupid as super-lefties boycotting Coca-Cola, but not realising that they make hundreds of drinks and then buying a Sprite instead, for example. Probably the same type of people.

Can't help but to appreciate success, i've always said this. Anyone making money must do something to make it(even if it seems unlikely) and Simon surely has his fingers in various pots.

What i said in the unholiest of places(FHOT), is more or less this;

I find it silly to use RATM as the song, should've used "jingle bells" or "silent night" to promote the spirit of the season. Much more widespread response could've been had.

Second point was rather ironic; by promoting RATM, they've made RATM as popular and "every man" music AS x-factor :D

RATM must love this and indeed, well, if sony gets the cash anyway...

Bottom line; nice effort, nice idea, rather poor planning and think-through.

No, excellent planning and well thought through....by Simon Cowell. His production company (SYCO) set up the whole thing.

Really, what's the point? If you enjoy music, buy whatever the fuck you like.

I can't stand pop music, so I don't buy it. Simple.

Probably the same marketing guru at Sony behind the PS3 shortage rumours.

I think that Simon Cowell has a great handle on just how stupid the British public actually is. Making money out of people that hate the x-factor and what it stands for? Genius!

Not to mention, making many RATM owning people buy a single even if they own the CD already

that is IF it's Simons devilwork.

The problem most people have is that the X factor is overhyped over advertised "music" that has made a mockery of the current chart system. But the main hope I have is that this could see the beginning of the end of the X factor, and that surely is no bad thing.

See, I've only got or ever had RATM bootlegged, so I feel obliged to give them a quid (or a fraction thereof).

I have no interest in who is at the top of the charts at christmas or at any other time of year so simon cowbell can have his #1s for all I care.
The only thing that annoys me is that I quite like RATM, and now I have loads of people who have probably never shown any interest in them before telling me to buy some song that I have already owned for years.

LOL! It's Cowells way of making more money, with 17million people watching the x factor finale, and next years already planned, do you really think it is going anywhere?

Lol Edmond, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist :D.

Glen was someone called I_am_Glenn or something who used to start threads on subjects that were already threads about on the very first page, sometimes just two or three threads apart. It was more Dave's thread I was referring to on the Glen part :).

Since then, a "Glen" is a retort usually to indicate something that's already been posted (or old).

hate the x factor but i do genuinely feel for the winner he doesnt deserve all the hatred aimed at him afterall the poor kid is just makin the best of the situation hes found himself in

the thing that really does bug me is the screaming christ that fuckin annoys me. why the fuck are people screaming at him likes hes a member of the fuckin beatles!
i dont want him to get to no1 simply because its associated with the x factor and i really want that show to just fuck off

i hate manufactured pop its not based on talent its all about publicity they tell the public hey this guy is the next best thing and the silly bastards lap it up.

im not gonna buy RATM simply because its not my type of music and i aint gonna do it just out of spite, id rather the kid have his moment in the sun hopefully at no2 in charts then fade into the background and hopefully ratings on the next fuckin series are horrific.

Rage Against The Machine are superweak. I'm with Mike Muir on their utter lameness. Tossers. Die.

I've not bought a CD in many years, the last one being a Christmas gift 3 years ago.

I approve of the idea behind the campaign. The biggest problem people have is with Cowell himself. The sheer arrogance of the man to think that he can release a single close to Christmas every year and get the Christmas #1. His shows are based on audience votes. This is the same public voting with their pockets and showing that the system can be gamed.
17million people watched it this weekend? That leaves 48million that didn't, so in other words the MAJORITY of the UK population were either watching something else or or had something better to do with their time.

How can you approve of the idea behind the campaign, when the idea is to make Cowell and Sony more money? Do people still not get this?

Tom Morello's been on the radio today he thinks it kind of funny that they have a chance of hitting christmas no1 in the UK.
And he said any money he makes from it will be going to charity which is fair enough.

Popular Music died by 1990 - now its just a corporate shell of marketing aimed at suckers.

If you want to upset X factor dont watch it n support indie labels.

Bunch of arse if you ask me, they should have been really subversive and picked something totally obscure to buy, or at least something from a true indie lavel.

It wouldn't surprise me if the facebook campaign wasn't started by sony...

It's all bollacks anyway, I think.

If any of you haven't read 'Chart Throb' by Ben Elton then go get it... great satire of this stuff ;)
