Cakes that don't rise properly.
A good soufflé which rises perfectly and then collapses when taken out of the oven. Do you know of anything worse? I sure don't...

The tube is so cramped you're practically wearing the other person's nasal cavity as a hat.

Deebs doesn't always ride the tube though.

Yeh not bad, counting down the days to my holiday.

Where to? Somewhere exotic?

Great looking pics, whereabouts were they taken?

Anglesey - finished my contract on the Friday and headed straight there. Went biking round holyhead mountain and kayaking around Puffin Island. Picked up an orbiter - one of the seals followed me for about 2 miles. Like a kayak-based R-Type :)

When old footage has been remastered and reprocessed from film into a digital HD video on YouTube, and some utter cunt in the comments says "ehhh, bullshit - how can this be when there wasn't HD back in those days?".

Fucking muppets need to keep their idiocy to themselves.

The real travesty is they haven't remastered every episode of Gladiators, Robot Wars and The Crystal Maze yet.

Online video ads. I go to news sites several times a day to make sure I am not missing anything. So let's say some politician made a statement about something and there's a video of it. But in order to watch the 45s video, I first have to endure 60s of mind numbingly bad commercials. If adblock is enabled the video won't load, so there's no way around it. Beyond stupid. There has to be better ways to make money

The ad scum are desperately grasping now. That sort of fuckbaggery is the last nail in the coffin for adshit online.

speaking of ads. I'm an adblock user. a couple days ago I got this thing on my screen:

addnoblock.PNG

Surely "acceptable ads" in a program that blocks all ads is kind of, um, not the correct thing to do? I don't want to see any ads at all, hence the adblocker. wtf man :-(

I don't mind ads, they pay for free stuff, but I hate shit that moves, autoplays, has volume, pops up or blocks my text. If they can put an advertisement by the side of my text, then fine. But not something I actively have to fight against to see content.

Can't agree more @SilverHood
I rather ignore an ad and get the web content for free then have to be a member and/or pay for it. Any website that plays sounds that is not immediate controllable and easy to turn off should die in a fire.

There's a great article on it here (ironically at the New York Times). Ad departments are their own worst enemy. I've long held that sites have to make money, and people won't pay subscriptions (or ppa), so ads are the only practical answer, just like in print (editorial has always been a hook to sell classifieds; don't let journalists tell you otherwise), but on mobile in particular they're actively ruining the site experience and costing the user money, so systematic ad blocking becomes inevitable:

Effectively ad blocker is setting itself up as a middleman between agencies, publishers and users. Its a model that's massively open to abuse, and its not going to work; everyone will just move to the next ad block service.

thing is, small unobtrusive well crafted ads are nice and all, but no advertising dept would ever see the light. design peeps, sure, ad people, nevar!! :(

exactly. for me, the key thing here is that the guy is waxing lyrical about how much he loves this idea but is not continuing after selling out. (naturally I realize there may be many other factors). the wording in his blurb thing reeks of "Movie commentary by actors" if you follow: they'll all publicly suck each others dicks about how great it was working with so-and-so, but the reality was that they wouldn't spend a minute more on set than they absolutely had to, hate their coactors to the point of sociopathy and the movie sucked anyway :)

I am certainly moving to the next best thing. That said...anyone got a recommendation?

When chillies stop burning your mouth
Birds eye chillies don't do anything for me now.
I'm acclimatised. Bit like Toto not feeling cold in the middle of a Finnish winter.
Whats the next one up? Scotch bonnet?
