RAID 0 Data Recovery? :\

Ello - I've got this client who's machine was set up with Raid 0 striping. No data protection or whatever. I'm not really that sure about raid stuff, however as I understand 0 just stripes the data over the two drives for the purpose of uberspeed.

The drives have subsequently buggered up and when plugged in individually, one shows 240gb free, one shows unformatted. They're both 120gb drives.

I expect I know the answer, but is there any free software solution to recover the data from these drives? I've tried using the firmware raid recovery utility but that's doesn't work.

Any help greatly appreciated :S

It isn't free ($50-ish) but...

The one I've seen in action is from http://www.r-tt.com and is called R-Studio. It works at block-level, and is capable of 'figuring out' where RAIDsets were and trying to reassemble them.

On the couple of occasions we've had cause to use it here, it has got a large proportion of the data back from pretty ropey disks. That said, it will retry and retry and retry so if the disks are knackered, it takes a very long time.

Cheers guys, I'm running the software from Kennys thread now - looks promising.
