i have a lot of friends that smoke, as i'm sure we all do, but a lot of them dont want to give up, because they say the same as Bodhi says, 'why do i want to stop something i enjoy'.

I dont smoke myself, its something i never really got into, but i dont have a problem with those who do. the guy i work with stopped 3 years ago and has just started (secretly) smoking again, he thinks i dont know, and when i mentioned it a few weeks ago he got really defensive, like way too defensive, which made me chuckle as i know he has started again

As an ex-smoker i can confirm that a smoker has, no clue how bad they smell!
yeah sure, you know, but you dont...
not so much fresh smoke, but that "old smoke" the stuff clinched to your cloths, your skin & your appartment if you smoke indoors"

Congratulations Mey!
keep at it, you'll beat that nicotine monster soon enough.
and then you'll have made a Big! life altering achivement,

Cheated and lapsed today, had a sly one with a mug of tea with an old mate. Admitely today has been a shit day so I'll put it behind me and start a fresh tomorrow.

I would be a total douchebag in this situation.

"Three of my friends new years resolutions is to quit smoking, I hope they all do as well as you did! What is it 3 years and going strong?"

So, not all smokers then?

Just like with "passive smoke kills!"

This bloody anti-smoke thing is all based on indoor smokers, i wish they'd make it clear already 'cause i f*cking doubt that me passing someone on the street while hnhaling that sweetsweeeeeet american aroma that smells of success, naked poon and sticking your head between two breasts and going ablublub...ahem...that passing someone while smoking is gonna give them the cancers.

Ok, evidently you can't quit full stop and if you try, you'll lapse harder at one point and won't bother quitting at all. So, little advice.

Cut down before quitting.

Say one a day, then one every two days, one a week etc.

You can't make yourself quit full stop if you're not built for it.

Nah, you just think you don't smell, but you do ;)

Tru dat.

Well I've managed a year now. I have lapsed; once at a work do, and once on holiday, but importantly I didn't feel the craving the next day, so I'm cool with that. You do notice the smell, even on "outside" smokers. I don't think you ever lose the mental craving - I still get the occasional "I could really do with a fag" moments, but they go away pretty quickly. The biggest difference I've noticed isn't physical though, its financial; I've saved at least £1500 quid in the last 12 months, probably more.

There's a smell ofcourse, but it's not like olga is making it sound.

He's making it sound like there's a pungent armoa wafting miles ahead of smokers, when infact it's more like a tickle in the nasal cavity.

all the anti smoking people can fuck off as far as im concerned

the pictures they put on packs now, of people with cancer and the warning "SMOKING CAUSES NASTY DISEASES"

no , sorry, it CAN cause, not guaranteed.. oh wait, theyre lieing

mint

so next week we can expect photos of people killed in car accidents, and after being glassed, on the side of cans of beer and wine bottles with the logo "ALCOHOL KILLS".

fuck right off

minority is evil and wrong ofc. if it was other way round, drinkers would be getting vilified and ostracised

the anti smoking lobby needs taking out and shooting, repeatadly

not that i feel at all strongly about it you understand

They have those horror pic packets all over Asia. I used to just put my lighter over the offending picture and carry on smoking.

I've tried the cutting down method seel, it simply won't work for me. If I have a pack of ciggies then I have a pack of ciggies and i'll smoke them. One become two, two becomes three etc.. etc..

Yeah I was wondering when they will put warning pics on alcohol and on pub doors as you walk in. Drinking causes far more expense and broken bones than smoking does.

How many stoners do you see going out in gangs looking for a fight for example?

More MP's drink than smoke so boozing will never suffer like tobacco does. My dad smoked 40 a day (Benny Hedgehogs) and drank constantly guess which of those 2 killed him?

The people who say that fags are so dear to pay for the patients in hospital because of it can fuck off as well, the amount of revenue made from smokers is billions more than said smokers cost the NHS. Why can't you import fags from abroad without having them seized, is it because the customs men are thinking of your health, is it fuck, its because they didn't get their duty off them.

Don't get me wrong, smoking is shit, it does stink and it costs a lot of money but its peoples choices to do it so let it be their choice.

I personally don't justify my smoking with anything else but "i wanna", and i give the same right to any loner, stoner or kittyboner.

Well...if it's consensual kittyboning.

I do defend my way of life if attacked, naturally, but within limit.

That being said, ain't it funny how all these discussions turn the drinkers, by some miracle force, into fight-searching-head-smashing lunatics and all the weed smokers into chilled, all out nice fellows :p

Individuals. All it comes down to. You can all individually do what-ever-the-f*ck you want, just let me do the same or let Mey quit doing the same ;)

and that if you smoke indoors, your appartment will smell.
thats no attack it's fact.

that used to be true of me and my appartment too,
now my self and my appartment have the loveluy ouder of sweat and farts instead.

I still remember going to my dads flat when I quit for 6 months many moons ago, he lived on the third floor and I could smell his flat from the first floor.

Smokers do smell, its a fact, outside smokers smell slightly less but they still smell. I am now the only smoker in my entire family and boy do I know it when I've had a fag "jesus christ John you stink!!!!"

Olga simple point, not as bad as you made it sound.

If you want to use facts, use them, not opinionated statements on amount.

My comment wasn't towards the fact smokers smell, it was towards your exaggaration and hypothesis that smokers are oblivious to the smell, because you were so.

What makes it an "attack", as YOU put it, is that it's an exaggarated opinion.

You syaing it as an ex-smoker, only makes you a (humorous opinion) traitorous cock :D

Its interesting how people have reacted to smokers in this thread, about them wanting to give up, not being able to etc etc.....
Yet, when we have threads about things like weight loss, people wanting to lose it and failing to do so, there have been some pretty unpleasant remarks made about 'getting a grip,' 'its really not that hard' etc etc....
Food can be a drug to some people, just like fags and booze are.

Lara is totally correct here... I have spent my life being addicted to one thing or another with a period last year of 9 months when I abstained from food. Sadly one change too many and blam I found myself smoking again after 3 years.

Today I stopped and day one is over.. i am not phreaking out, shaking stuffing my face, getting stressed... the thought of living of FEBO for a month left me with no other logical choice. It takes 31 days to break a habit so by the time I get paid againish I won't care.

Strangely a bit like when I abstained from food I am finding keeping a bottle of water close to hand very theraputic (hope it helps others here trying to stop). Another useful tool I used when I reintroduced food into my diet was to write down events (ususally associated with emotions) which lead me to believe I was hungry and also ask myself some questions before eating... by the time I had thought about why I wanted to eat and answered some very basic questions like:

Have I drunk any water recently
How long ago did I last eat
What did I last eat (If I start eating fruit I seriously cant stop unless I question what I am doing.. ie fruit makes me feel hungry no matter how much I consume).

I had all the information I needed to make an informed decision, rather than an impulsive one.

Keep going Mey don't let crooked thinking cajole you into thinking that one lapse makes you a failure, it doesn't. Oh and don't let others crooked thoughts encourage you to lapse either.
