So I made the commitment at NYE to quit, and its now 2 hours without a smoke... I can tell this is going to be painful.

Too much pressure doing it New Years Day luv, smoke your tits off now and quit at a time you haven't planned, just get up one day and decide to quit.

All in my opinion of course.

Good luck if you decide to do it now though, I did quit then started again and it is very fucking hard to stay off them forever. Trick is to try and not miss them, not be sad, you don't need them, you weren't born with a ciggie in your mouth, be happy not sad that you aren't smoking.

I haven't smoked for just under a year. :D

*triumph*

I did what Trem said - randomly quit one day and managed to stick with it. Don't miss it in the slightest tbh, every now and then I'll think "cor I could do with a fag right about now" but the moment soon passes. :)

chewing gum works for some people - gives you something to do with your mouth

as for hands, sure you can find something to do ;)

when i gave up i used one of those inhaler thingys that look like a tampon, took a week to kick the nicotine and another week to stop my hands going to my mouth every time i sat down.

Good luck with it :)

I found not buying fags made the whole quitting smoking thing spectacularly easy. Now 5 years since quitting and no relapse.

The only thing I am missing at the minute is the actual going outside to go for a smoke, going to have to find a reason to do that now lol! I've pretty much sat in my flat for two days now.

Yeah, quitting is easy really. Don't light up and actually the occasional "stand outside doing sh*t all" helps.

What i do hate are those arrogant f*cks who flaunt how LONG they've been without one.

If you get passed the addiction, it's no longer an achievement. Stop milking it!

Not to mention people congratulating on quitting. "Congratulations Jim! You managed to stop something you yourself brought on yourself! Well done! Oh and congratulations on stoping hitting yourself on the head with a shoe! Well done indeed.

And let me congratulate you on your ability to aim your seed into a woman also! How is Jim Junior?"

Yeah...i have issues :p

Well sorry to be an annoyance to you Seel!

Managed to go tescos and avoid the smoking counter, forced my house mate to come with me to distract me haha.

Almost at day 2.

How long does it take to "clear" your body per say of the nicotine?

think it takes about 3 week for the nicotine to leave your body they say the first week is not too bad because you still have nicotine in your system weeks 2-3 are supposed to be pretty rough because your body craves nicotine and it doesnt have any in your system after that its supposed to be really easy

depends on the person tho my dad went cold turkey#

my mum went through all the nhs 8 week course thingy or what ever it is and she struggled but didnt relapse they both been quit for years now they say the craving never truly leaves you

lukily ive never smoked and never will so ner :p

I've already noticed a big difference in the taste of things. I've found that I can notice flavours in food more than ever before. I also enjoy fruit juice alot more, one habit to another ha lol!.

Also when out today the smell of people smoking when I was walking through town put me right off!

When my dad quit smoking the main thing that got him through it was drinking loads of orange juice.

I'm thinking of giving it a try again but I may quit booze first, thats easy, I didn't start until I was 30. So may quit that then quit ciggies a month or so off the booze.

I get the feeling I need to change my lifestyle, 36 now and it only gets tougher to live longer from here on in.

I didn't smoke on New Years Day. Mainly as I felt like shit. However I did smoke again on the 2nd and I can still confirm that cigs are lovely. Why would you want to quit something so enjoyable?

There'll be a quit wanking thread next.
