Question re: new smoking ages.

In October, you have to be 18 to buy cigarettes etc. but will the selling age still remain at 16?

i havent read the act yet (i should :\) but id guess that you would have to be 18 to sell them. as with alcohol, you have to be 18 to be able to make judegement that someone else is 18 or not.

edit: just read the draft SI, i cant see anything which states it in there. it doesnt come into force till 1st october anyway. plenty of time to find out im guessing between now and then there will be further amendments to come.

thats stupid, ofc you have to be 18 to sell them, that would be like changing the class system in drugs, making selling them fine

In the Netherlands selling doesn't carry the same age restrictions as buying, so a cashier can be 15 and sell alcohol to someone while he or she him/herself wouldn't be able to buy it.

to sell alcohol you have to be 18. if bugz worked in a shop that sold it and hes manning the place on his own, whats to stop him selling it to his friends who also under 18?

everything i mentioned above is to stop him from selling it.

add in work that trading standards do aswell, there is another factor.

Tris showed a source from a government-related site and after checking it, I can't see anything related to the selling age.

lamp is probably correct though, as it would make sense to raise that age to 18.

BBC amongst other sties have mentioned a lot about the limit being raised to 18 for buying cigarettes but none have mentioned the selling age going up.

I must have checked about 10-15 individual news reports from different sites.

well that SI draft was only made a couple days ago iirc. its very likely amendments are going to be added etc.

my trading standards review magazine also doesnt state it. just that it comes into force on 1st of october.
