The SS Academy has been set up to allow interested Quake 3 players to develop their skills and become an asset to any Quake 3 playing Clan. In the past, unless a player was good enough to walk straight into a Clan's first team, it has been difficult for interested players to get into the Clan scene. Our aim is to help good players become excellent ones.
The Academy is run by the Suicide Squad Clan, one of the oldest Quake Clans in the UK. The Suicide Squad Clan plays in the highest level of every league and is known for its fair play, good humor and team spirit. What we offer you is a chance to improve your game to the level where you can join some of the best Clans in the UK (several BWQ3L Clans will be keeping an eye on the Academy progress) or even start your own Clan!
The Academy is essentially about having fun. The emphasis is on friendly competition, making new online friends and through that enjoying online gaming more. We don't aim to create a new Thresh or Sujoy, just to instill the right values into online gaming, those being sportsmanship and enjoyment, rather than the excessive pressure that is going around. If you join the Academy we guarantee you will enjoy the experience, especially if it's your first taste of online gaming.
So why an Academy?
The Suicide Squad Clan was started with players who I knew from Quake 1 days, players of varying degrees of experience and ability. I quickly saw that our less experienced players were in need of a game, and I thought long and hard about a solution. An internal league sounded like a great idea, but why stop there? Why not expand the idea so it would become a service to other less experienced players too?
We are not looking for players who consider themselves to be as good as they can get, or complete newbies who still need to get to grips with the game. We are looking to help players reach their full potential - and we will do anything at all within our power to help you improve.
The Suicide Squad Online Academy is designed to teach new players to Quake 3 the intricacies of the game, train them to a high level and inform them about the clan scene in the UK. The Academy aims to turn novices into better players.
The Academy is based around a DM league, where individual players are placed in "factions" and fight it out each week. The league is held on a Sunday afternoon, please do not apply if you cannot make this time regularly.
