"From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In plane geometry, a square is a polygon with four equal sides and four right angles."

so are you using the generally and universally accepted definition of a square or some other definition of a square?

I am using a universally accepted definition of a square.

And yes this definition can be found on Wikipedia as well as the link someone posted earlier.

Not that type of square either.

Anywho, I'm off for dinner. Probably won't be on again til tomorrow morning so have fun debating :)

I'll post the right answer tomorrow whether anyone has got it or not. (unless there is open outcry that people would like to solve it themselves in which case I will PM it to those that want to know.)

Something along the lines of this. A square being a perfect square, as in the number 4, not an actual shape.

Here we go:

A 3 dimentional object viewed in 2 dimensions.

4matchpe7.jpg

A: Shows the square that is viewed from an angle of the 3d object, but potrayed in 2d.

B: Shows how in the example C the 4th match is set on top the triangle.

C: Shows the view of the triangle from the "side".

D: Shows a rough 3d view of the whole thing. The bottom match is positioned further away then the top one.

Views of the square and triangle are not possible at the same time, but they exists at the same time, nor can they be viewed in any full degree angle (such as 90 angle from left etc etc).

Haven't broken any rules, have done what was asked, now give me my damn cookie!

Very good :)

Cstasy you had the right idea but Outlander has the right method :)

Using the three matchsticks of equal length it is impossible to have two of them crossing at the right angle if their other ends are touching the match on the hypotenuse.

But all in all I was suprised how long it took people to get it :) Very impressed now you have though!

Ok, maybe not as hard this time.

A palindrome is a word that reads the same when spelled backwards (eg rotavator).
How could the following word be considered a palindrome?

FOOTSTOOL

If we're being precise, the *word* "FOOTSTOOL" is NOT a pallindrome. The last two letters are different.

Thats sort of the point of it Lamp.. there is a way it can be considered a Pallindrome though.. (and no you can't move letters around or anything liek that).
