PS3 Disc Residue

Hey Up All

My friend has a PS3 and has just been playing CoD4 when it stopped reading it. Anyways, after ejecting the disc he noticed some sort of oily residue on it, around the perimeter of the disc about 1cm in width.

Has anyone else with a PS3 had this and if so, what is it?

TIA

Best guess, oil/grease from the drive bearing - either way it shouldn't be heading the way of the discs :/
I'd suggest getting it looked at, or possibly asking your friend if he happened to be eating very buttery toast when loading the disc in the first place ;)

Delket had to take his first PS3 back last week on the day he bought it, the drive was grinding like mad so it sounds like another issue with the bearings.
