Not the most reliable source, being that it The Sun, but i cant be arsed to search for the other places this was reported as well. Just the fact i knew where it was stated on the website for this quote

SunSport has learned that Arshavin’s club Zenit St Petersburg did not have the relevant documents lodged with the FA in time for Monday’s 5pm deadline.

And there were even questions about some of the paperwork submitted by Arsenal. FA and Premier League officials were not convinced the deal was in order and lawyers had to be called in to resolve the dispute.

It was argued by some officials that, as Arsenal had been tracking Arshavin for 228 days, there was no excuse for any deadlines being missed.
Extended

The transfer deadline had been extended because of the bad weather but Arsenal were unable to use that as an excuse because Arshavin had already arrived in London on Sunday night.

but like i previously stated...as a former top four club this deal would have been allowed even if paper work wasnt in order. Even as a top four support i see that at times they get a lot more liency then other clubs (liverpool last night on the booking front got away with a lot more then Everton did... even though liverpool had the sending off.

mate, it's the sun.

I trusted sky sports at the time, all the press agencies have since created a story out of nothing. I am no Arse fan, infact I cannot stand them, but they really have done nothing wrong here. Zenit have talked shit all throughout this saga, so they are not a reliable source. At the time Sky had a reported outside FA headquarters, and the guy dealing with transfers said he was going home and that the Arshavin transfer would be finalised the next day. Anything since is just for a story.

if the fa were going to let the deal go through no matter what they wouldnt let there guy leaving say "oh yeah, arshavin was late but we sort it out tomorrow." now would they?

I dont care either way. The guy is so unpredicatble he can never be counted on. I doubt he will often play well 2 games in a row when matches are just 3 or 4 games apart. He proved this is the Euro's when games come hard and fast.

The additional pace of the prem, added with the more aggressive playstyles and fitness levels required it will be quite some time before he will make any real mark. Sure i expect him to have some good games, but he be far from consistant for the rest of this season and possibly be at least a year before he will begin to consistantly show some good form.

Corran you nned to think about this why would the FA after the whole Tevez thing let a player come in which could lead to them and Arsenal being sued if its dodgy. The FA have said the agreement between arsenal and Zenit was in pre 17.00 and were satisfied that our reason for not have the player contract was ok. As in Zenit saying no deal and sending him to an airport at 16.00.

If you are getting this stressed how bad will you be if he scores Arsenals winner at Old Trafford. And yes there was only one person in the FA Offices on deadline day as most of London was closed. Which is why a lot of loan deals agreed on Monday are still being made official today they have a back log. Ours was just high profile and not helped by Zenit seeming to have more offical spokesmen than fans hence sky reporting at 4.59 the seal had falled though while the bbc said paper work had been subbmited. None of this was helped by the fact Arsenal do not comment so we were left efectivly in the Dark untill it was official.

Eurosport said:
There is absolutely no suggestion of wrongdoing on Arsenal's part. In fact, it appears the deal was delayed by Zenit's, volatile approach to transfer dealings and the FA staff's inability to trudge through a bit of slush or flag down a taxi.

It has been reported that, due to snow, only one member of the FA's transfer unit showed up for work. On transfer-deadline day. Given that their sole function is to dot the 'i's and cross the 't's for player moves, one could assume that the most important day of their year could have been treated with more professionalism.

Either way, Arsenal and Arshavin are claiming that the deal was signed minutes before the 5pm deadline, even though the FA didn't ratify it until the following afternoon. Zenit St Petersburg, meanwhile, announced that the deal was off minutes after the 5pm deadline, although this was swiftly retracted.

Doesn't matter much to me, the guy is 28 so realistically he will be in England for 4 years at most. He is a decent player but he has never really be tested consistently at the top level so it awaits to be seen if he turns out to be a good buy. Personally I don't consider him to be any better than Hleb or Rosicky but I am happy to be proved wrong.

Anything written in the Sun needs to be taken with a massive pinch of salt, look at all the dummies they managed to convince with the Ronaldo situation. It was nailed on apparently!

It also wasn't true that Villa were causing a fuss. It is not our way under the current regime. But it does stink that Leeds weren't allowed to sign a player when their paperwork was 17 minutes late, but the Russian guy signed 24 hours late.

Villa stated that questions would be asked.. the FA pre-empted it and spoke about the rules around the transfer deadline and clubs just let it go. Credit to the clubs for not pushing it. I think some things may be on the dodgy side, however it wont make much difference. Still feel villa are better team then arsenal currently, and play like a team. Arshavin isnt going to come in and instantly create a team, and as said im not worried about him anyways. Just think the saga is funny, and it crazy arsenal let it come to this.

And there were more sources then the sun for that information. Also there were the zenit statements and various other russian sources. But how much can believed you can never say, arsenal just dont help theirselfs is all.

TheSun is good for sport in general, but everything in any media source needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. I know i dont trust most the shit i read anywhere as everyone puts their own twist on things.

In future though i do feel the FA need to stick hard to a deadline, afteral it had already been extended 2 days before they allowed the additional extension... pointless calling it january transfer window now days :D

Your misunderstnading the paperwork was all done on time so ArseShaving had signed for Arsenal by 5pm the FA just did not rubberstamp it till the day after prolly because they knew they would get all this bullshit so made extra sure it was all Legit which it seems it was.

If you read the BBC statement they did stick to the 5pm deadline it just took them time to make sure it was legit thats not Arsenals fault thats the FA all the Premiership chairmen are happy it was done before 5 so let it go.

corran you do seem like a conspiracy theorist.... oh noes the big 4 are out to eat our babies kind of thing. The footy press in this country are awful. They are bored of their tits outside a transfer window and take every opportunity to write or report on anything based on the flimsiest bit of rumour they have heard that day.

Not all of us... I only play attention to 3 sources. The beeb, because they tend not to comment on a story until it actually is on. Sky Sports News - because they follow stories up by sending reporters in and are not scared to go back on what they have previously said, and the The Times, because they have good writers and less bullshit.

I just like being annoying :D

But the top 4 have always got more favourable decisions on the pitch, that is clear to see to everyone. Just however depends which team is selected for the season. This year it is Liverpool, seen by all the red cards people get against them, got to give them a helping hand ;p

(again, being annoying)

Well i like todays news, BskyB has got a near monopoly for the broadcasting rights of live games.

They now own 5 of the 6 packages (23games each), leaving satanta with just the single package that appears to be for 23 saturday evening games.

I know that makes me a happy bunny because i refused to pay for satanta (just watch the matches they have online :p )

Odd, I thought the point was that sky could no longer bid for more than 4 of the packages. Ho hum, Sky's coverage is far superior to anyone else's.

Drawing at home to hull, how poor we are at the moment, shakey in defence, slow in midfield and barely existent in attack :(

So proud of this Villa team, MON has built a side that is much better than the sum of its parts and has them playing out of their skins. Huge pressure on Arsenal now to get a victory in the North London derby and Spurs with everything to play for.

With Chelsea next at Villa Park could Villa be battling it out for second place whilst Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton scrap it out for the fourth place spot?

Amazing times. If you live long enough you see everything :D

tell you what, if keane wins them the game tomorrow your friend will suddenly love him again :p

Aston villa with another strong performance, keeping the pressure up on arsenal, and now chelsea.

John terrys miss from 2 yards with the keeper on the floor is hilarious.... Chelsea once again struggle against a team with a strong defense.

Jones doing a task to give sunderland safety in the league, bet they loving the fact the got him to sign the new contract and not leave, he certainly getting them the points since doing so.

Everton looking good, moyes already working wonders on Jo's confidence. Could see them pushing onto arsenal and chelsea IF they can continue a run of results and them two struggle to put the results together.. unlikely that they be able to also breach the top 4, but villa are looking good for it.

Must say with myp2p no longer putting links on the site for the matches, im glad i found another site that has plenty of links :D Watched Man city this morning on sky (poor game), straight onto villa match with highlights of all the other goals =as they happened... next up is hopefully a liverpool loss :D

The spud game not withstanding (if he plays no way he can be fit) Arseshavin could make a big difference for us that bit of creativity we lack in midfield, while i think the Nasri In Helb Out transfer was brilliant we have lacked abit of something in midfield. Get him cesc theo and roisky fit and we could be in business. All credit to villa though they are really making the most of the sketchy performances we have put in this season, I was sure they would have dropped off by now but they keep winning not always pretty or convincing but shit loads better that us :)
