Whoever said "who cares about popidol" must be living in a hole or something, because it was the largest phone vote in the UK ever. So there must be a lot of people who care. (nevermind the fact that they're all little girls and mums doing the voting)

I think it's pretty crap though, thank god it's all over, and why didn't they just make those women win, we'd all buy their music for their "talent", not their talent. :D

Pop Idol is an complete and utter brain-wave - just when you thought that marketing had shot its bolt with regards to this sort of televisual anathema with "Pop Star(s)".

I guess calling it "Pop Star" would have set people thinking along the lines of cows and the overmilking thereof.

"Pop Idol" though, that's TOTALLY different to "Pop Stars" isn't it?

I doff my cap to the marketing geniuses behind both programs - it may be "absolute shit", but it's popular and it'll make the people involved in it a shit load of money.

Who's "absolute shit" now?

Too right - not just from the advertising and sponsorship surrounding the program, but also the cut everyone will get *when* the record gets to number one.

Think about it - these people have had 6 months of 1/2 hour commercials, plus the person that is picked ALREADY has a massive dedicated fanbase

Contest shows like PopStars and PopIdol are no different to normal pop-groups under management starting out; the general theory is "Money over Music".
Granted- some of them can sing well, but otherwise, they don't give a shit about the sounds they put out. Then again, it's what gives them a living, and I should imagine they support their families pretty well with the wages, and get a good life out of it.
