Aye, "taking me to the shower (no, not showering me. I can still clean body parts on my own)", what the hell is up with that? :eek7:

Otherwise, OD will live, adjust and live. If i've done it all my life, he sure as hell can.

And yes, i'm the friend who doesn't give candy or flowers and pat his head :p

... I guess I have to take 5m out of my web design time to post something here.

I'm sick. Two diseases. Anemia and Crohn's disease. I was living on just over 8 pints of blood and was given enough to give me colour and to keep me alive for the first few days of being there. My case isn't mild, I'm an all over person. My throat, stomach and intestines (all of it) are inflamed and have gone to hell (I've seen the photos..) and all I can do is relearn what to eat, relearn how to live with the pills I'm on and finally get on with my life.

All I'm going to say.. No, I'm not going to answer any questions, no I don't know why or how I got this and no, I don't know if I'm going to get better any time soon. If you think you know about the disease, then congratulations.. Because the constant sets of consultants I saw still don't know the causes, especially with me, as I had no signs of it previously.

I don't appriciate all the people telling me to get better, I'd rather just carry on and get on with things. I've got things to do and new things to adapt to. 'Thanks' to those who 'care' and much more thanks to those who will let me get on with it.

O.D.

Overdriven don't let it hold you back from doing things in life. Some things you just wont be able to do (be a pilot or maybe travel the world) and when you're 40+ you may get complications/problems so make the most of your youth.

If you sit there and stay depressed about it you're just wasting time. It seems like you're getting on with it so that's the first step.

Well, as long as you don't have to wait that long to get fucked?

You'd be surprised at my age how long it does. It's almost like waiting for death if you are single like me :)

There's no reason you can't be a pilot or travel with Crohns, i work with 3 people with the condition one of whom has a fixed wing and helicopter license another of which has gone off to work in Sweden on a whim. All of whom have full work and social lives. There are complications, quite nasty ones sometimes but almost all are treatable and controllable. The main thing is to find a good consultant and go for regular checkups.
Talking of which i have a gastroscopy on monday which is going to be fun.

Sorry, I was generalising there as I'm a diabetic and don't think we can be pilots. I was trying to make a point that there may be some things he just cant do, but try not to let it get you down.

Lol dont even think we can go skuba diving :(

Pilots? Only with doctors permission, same with driving etc etc, where a "shock situation" could be fatal.

It's harder to keep yourself in SO good shape, but it's not impossible.

You've forgotten the cardinal rule; you don't live with diabetes, diabetes lives with you ;)

Well, if its a diagnosis a long time coming I can almost see it as a relief to know what it is. My sister was diagnosed with M.E. a couple of years ago after years and years of feeling like crap and assuming that she was just being lazy. Its seriously affected all her time at school, college and now university. But at least now she has a diagnosis and gets lots of help from the university and ofc all our family.

Now, I am not belittling what sounds like a pretty painful condition but now he has a diagnosis it can be managed and he can still have what approaches a normal life. Sometimes a diagnosis is half the battle.

So good luck with reinventing yourself Overdriven, I am sure that you'll get this under control.

That's nice if you think of it that way, I can see your point. I watched my grandmother die of cerebella ataxia and that hurt. The diagnosis was as much pain as it was a relief, mainly due to the fact that we knew what was coming but not to see it in reality.

I remember going into the nursing home and this was my favourite grandmother and having to watch her look at me and not even knowing who I was and not remembering all the fun we had when I was a kid. She was vegetable in the end of the day, and it hurt me big time.

But this thread isn't about people's regression with their hurt with their own family members. This is about OD and what he has to live with and I know similar people who have life conditions. ME is something that can be overcome, or at least conditioned. OD's diet right now is indetermined, he doesn't even know wtf he eat and what's going on and some of the side effects of the pills ..........jeez.

He lives or dies by what he eats .........

At best he lives on iron and caffeine inducing foods. So in some respects he's like a diabetic but much worse..........

Just like M.E. by what I have read his condition can be controlled to a certain extent.

What I've seen to be so counterproductive in my sister is concentrating on the things she can't do. In the last few months I've seen her start to concentrate on the things she can do and is getting a hold on her life.

Yes, its gonna be tough. However, its not the end.
