polearm respec question(or stay full s/s)

Hi all,

right now my current spec is
50 slash
50 shield
rest in parry

i was wondering of maybe switching to a hybrid polearms or just full polearms.

can you "expert" tanks help me out a little bit? also opinions of other full s/s are welcome to convince me to stick with this spec(eg hrodelbert and others).

Furthermore, i been talking to some 2h users and some of them advice me to drop all +quick items for more damage. Whats you guys opinion on this?

My humble opinion, even tho i'm no "expert tank"..

Keep shield at 50, brutalize is great, but lower slash and raise parry.. You can easy get to 50slash with items now, and the points over 50 doesn't really do much.

Go Hybrid, no doubt.
Used to be full Pole, being Hybrid made my life much easier.

Get Slam, the higher Endcost from it compared to Brutalize means nothing anymore, now we have Endchanting Pally's, Endpotions and (as before) End bountystones. I don't think I have run out of endurance once the times I have been fighting alongside a Pally

So....

44 Pole, 39 Slash, 42 Shield, 24(?) Parry.

Then grab some friendly SCer and get the numbers up.

Been Thrust Polearm Hybrid since respec was available, and it's great

44 Polearm
42 Shield
39 Thrust/Slash/Thrust
25 Parry

With items you can get 50 plus shield easy which is perfect for PvE, no real use for polearms in PvE except getting aggro, in my opinion (after playing up to around 46 as full pole, I know how annoying it is )

In RvR either just slam then use all end up with polearm styles, generally, then switch back to sword and shield. Of course, this changes vastly with your playing style, but generally the above works rather well.

Against different classes the Hybrid specc works well or not so well, er... as you might expect . Don't be expecting to slam those 50 Shield people . I learnt the hard way :doh:.

but i seem to have np with purepoles as long as i can evade

so imo go for it hybrid-anize lol

couldn't have said it better myself (well ofcourse I could but i won't cause then Umilard will cry)

I'm 50 shield, 44 slash and 37 parry and that a damn good specc. With RR's and items I have...

64 shield
50 slash (could have gone higher if i wanted to but it's really not worth spending items/imbuepoints in this due to the low return)
51 parry

Since 1.54 came along s/s really changed from a state of 'decent specc' to 'omg this ROCKS m8 ffs!' (spoken in true leet)

IMO s/s is not only fun (nothing beats the feeling of taking on 3 mid tanks and blocking almost every attack from 'em) but also more groupfriendly than hybrid/pure pole. Guard is very useful specially now when caster interrupt-bug has been fixed.

I'm not much for the hybrid-specc. I would rather choose one thing to be really good at than to be decent at 2 things

but ultimately .. it's all about what you find most fun. If you're not happy with blocking loads and doing moderate damage maybe hybrid or even full pole is an option.

44pole (+6=50), 39wep (+11=50), 42shield (+8=50), 25parry (+11=36).

Toss in some bonus from RR and you are but an inch away from a pure S/S, plus that you got the Pole for those times you need to host a bbq

Then again, don't listen to us, make up your own mind.

ehm don't stop at 50 weapon if you can go higher +weaponskill = you get blocked/parried a lot less.

imo stay at 13 parry since it sucks but instead go for 44 pole, 42 shield, 44 DmgType(slash imo for pwnzing of her0s!), 13 parry.

yeah yeah hybrid is so uber..... or not don't change stan all i know is that i find polearmsmen easier to beat in duels than S/S. S/S is also better PvE. But what is ideal is when you have a nice mix because there is no denying than polers hit very hard and you don't need 5 slams on something to make it stop moving

Also diamond slash while wildly variable still can hit for lots and 50 slash is a must imo. for improved weapon skill etc

I don't believe in zergs tbh, I'm usually a loner in Odins wondering about killing people ^^

ah so many mistakes in that sentence there:
1) kick me back to midgard? huh??
2) I use a breadknife or comedy mallet as necessary, not a toothpick
3) You're actually willing to accept my challenge (<--- biggest mistake of all)

Hope to run into you sometime, as I wander odin's solo a lot too (especially at noonish gmt on saturday's for all you mal hunters ) and if I see you solo while I'm with a group I'll try to get them to stop ripping you to shreds soon enough that we can have a 1v 1 fight

I'm not gonna change. I always liked my spec, though some say i'm uber gimped being full slash/shield. And was getting annoying to be killed by every single assasin in DF when hunting solo... but yesterday i took on two hib assasins, i lost the fight but it was getting close... I always kinda messed up solo fights by using slam, but hell i'm 50 shield brutalize is so much better to use in a fight, just have to wait a little till i block (which is very often) and than i can slice in two or three riposite blows...

And than again getting owned by assasins aint that bad, usually they got a bunch of RA's (i only have IP), when i get some more RA's i might be a worthy opponent to them, and when they lose IP they going down anyways (or at least i hope they will).

And seems i can only find the perfect SC template with being S/S instead of being hybrid
