Cheaper. No restrictions on used games. No internet connection required to play. Region free. Trying not to screw over small indie developers.
I think that's M$ kicked in the balls so hard they can taste them.
I personally don't feel they've been hit that hard to be honest.
Xbox fans will still buy an Xbox and Playstation fans will still buy PS4
That said lets look at it like this
Xbox One - more expensive
Xbox One - second hand game restrictions
Xbox One - have to connect to the internet once a day
Xbox One - almost the same specs of the PS4 but still lower than the PS4 despite costing more
PS4 - costs less
PS4 - no second hand game restrictions
PS4 - do not have to connect to the internet
PS4 - more powerful than the Xbox One (even if the difference is minor its still more powerful and your paying less)
You'd have to be a hardcore Xbox fan or a dumb fuck to buy an Xbox One over a PS4 at this point.
Or like this:
Xbox One - Includes Kinect (Costs more)
Xbox One - Not default but publisher based
Xbox One - Generally online all the time any way
Xbox One - On Paper a tad weaker hardware wise
PS4 - Costs less
PS4 - No acknowledged restrictions at the moment
PS4 - Generally online all the time any way
PS4 - On paper a tad more powerful hardware wise
The first thing regarding price is a slight issue and I think MS should try and push it down to about £399 because that small drop in actual money has a bigger psychological effect.
The issue of second hand games personally isn't a big one for me since I've always kept my games any way, as for others I'm not sure many publishers who publish to both platforms will activate the MS feature and I'm expecting more people to shift to direct downloads on both platforms any way which in essence will mean no second hand selling any way.
The issue of being online is quite frankly is utter bollocks, any one who gets these consoles will generally always be online any way because they are being designed with that functionality in mind from the ground up and the assorted associated systems and software will benefit from being online.
The hardware specs on paper do give the advantage to the PS4 but the difference is likely to be tiny, even if a publisher does manage to get the maximum out of both consoles.
Personally I'm not going to buy either, I've had many consoles from the Atari 2600 onwards but in the early 90s I got in to PC gaming and while still buying consoles they've spent more and more time not being used until I decided to stop buying them after my Wii spent most of its time in a storage box. My dad got himself a PS2 and then a PS3 and if that breaks in the future then he might get a PS4 to replace it providing it has bomberman on it.
Yes, but who wants Kinect? its shit. As for the restrictions Sony said at E3 there are no restrictions at all with used games, it'll function just like used games have been for the PS1, PS2, PS3.
I trust Sony about as much as I trust Microsoft, both have had some shockers when it comes to customer issues from activation, data breaches, root kits, etc. As I already stated they will both push more towards the direct download root and this will make the whole second hand argument a moot point, POSA cards will over come people wanting to pay with cash in a store. To me it'll mainly be decided by your current console preference and the exclusives you'll want to play.

There is also the matter of a monthly sub with the Xbox - which is rather self defeating.
I never really had a problem with PSN though I did only ever buy a few PSP games, it seemed straight forward enough. I wouldn't pay a sub to use a console as it's intended. Not unless it was some kind of rental deal where you get the console for free and pay a monthly contract. There was talk of that sort of thing a while back but not heard anything from Sony or MS about it.
Yeah a free game every month that you can keep and play as long as you are a subscriber. Last month was Hitman Absolution so it is not just all Sony titles.PS+ gives you far more rewards than just online gaming though. Doesn't it give you a free game every month, as well as other stuff? I don't know as I don't use it.
Yeah PS+ is worth it. This month its XCOM and Uncharted 3
