Right, obviously no one making music today is a total hermit, thus you are bound to hear a song and then later maybe let that influence your own creation (knowingly or unknowingly). But what happends when you actually release something like that? Some examples I can think of atm is:

Tom Petty - Mary Jane's Last Dance > Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Dani Carlifornia

Rammstein - Sonne > Fear Factory - Default Judgement

Salvatore Acquaviva - Ma Vie Fout L'camp > Madonna - Frozen

Totally unknown belgian rock musician sued Madonna for stealing four chords from his songs for her song Frozen. And the bizarre thing is that he won, and this resulted in a ban on Madonnas album Ray of Light in Belgium. Maybe the stealing of an riff explains why it's one of the few songs I can stand by her. :)

So, know any other examples of people being maybe abit too "inspired" when creating their music or questioning the examples I have given? :)

RHCP - Dani California is a direct copy of everything else they've ever done.

OPM - Heaven is a Halfpipe sounds awfully like Sublime - What I Got

Coldplay - Square One has hints of Pink Floyd - Cluster One and lots of U2 songs.

If you must write prose and poems
The words you use should be your own
Don't plagiarise or take "on loan"
'Cause there's always someone, somewhere
With a big nose, who knows
And who trips you up and laughs
When you fall
Who'll trip you up and laugh
When you fall

Hes not wrong, you know.

if you're swedish then an obvious one would be håkan hellström, that borrows quite happily from other songs. for example "det är så jag säger det" is mercury revs "opus 40", and there's many more.

also i get the feeling that i've heard alot of the ark's songs before, just can't put my finger on where they come from.

and it might be abit of a streach but i've always found radioheads ''the national anthem'' to be very similar to primal screams "blood money".

Two songs I can't get away with how similar they are.

House of Pain - Jump Around & Cypress Hill - Insane in the brain

Both songs sound incredibly alike in every way.

That Dandy Warhols song Bohemian something is a total ripoff of a stones song. Forget which. I believe this is no secret though.

Oasis - Wonderwall & Travis - Writing to reach you.

I think that's more of a well known and not hidden fact, as in Writing to reach you has the line "And what's a wonderwall anyway?" so I think they got permissions or something similar since the main riff is exactly the same just about (Few different chord changes at the end centered around D)
