english and ships...

never was a reall success was it?:(

idiot ..
the reason your 2nd language is english is largely due to the british navy dominating the french to help make america what it is today, and also a huge reason why your main language isnt german since we dominated germany on the sea in ww2.
if the best you can do is brag about sinking some ships in docks that are unable to move or fight i sugest a nice hot cup of stfu.
i could tell you how the british navy destroyed the spanish armada in the english channel or how charles darwin formed the "theory of evolution" (you might have heard of it) onboard a british navy ship.
without question the british navy has been the most succesfull and has had the most influence to make the world what it is today, your post is just amasingly retarded...

Lol are you simply stupid or trying to get a flame reaction? :)

never mind, I see you have been shown what an utter dildo you clearly are already so nothing to add here.

Anyway, saw an article about it ages ago, is it any good or just a game to dip into now and again?

PS: the weather did obliterate the Armada.

the weather only finished a beaten spanish fleet :/
1. english ships were faster and more manoverable than spanish galleons
2. english ships had more powerfull guns with further range than the spanish
quite a lethal combination hm?

the turning point in the whole battle was after some days of the english fleet harassing the armada from the rear who were unable to engage the english (see points 1+2) the spanish had anchored the armada at night.

the english sent fireships into the armada during the night causing chaos.. and in the confusion the spanish armada cut anchors and they seperated.

in the morning the spanish flagship with a handfull of spanish galleons turned back to engage the organised english fleet and were destroyed 1 by 1 as the armada raced back to help the spanish flagship.

this was the most bloody battle of the whole encouter and is know as "the battle of gravelines"
not a single english ship was lost during this and an estimated 60 english sailors lost their lives.
the spanish armada however lost many ships during this battle with an estimated 4000 casualties and a further 4000 wounded, all from direct ship to ship combat, not weather / shipwreaked / luck or anchored ships related 1 bit.

ofc we all know now what remainded of the retreating "invicible armada" :) as they went up and over the top and britain and many became shipwreaked there and on the coast of ireland.

bottom line is : if spain had faster ships with longer range cannons than the english ships had they could have engaged when they wanted to and won (especially as spain had a far higher number of ships than the english) .. but they didnt and they lost.
1. better english ships (even though outnumbered)
2. smarter tactical thinking from drake
3. arrogance from the commander of the spanish armada who thought he could take on the entire english fleet with just a handfull of spanish galleons supporting him @ gravelines were the main factors that resulted in an english victory, not the weather :/
the weather was just the final nail in the coffin for the armada.

if you genuinly know what happened @ gravelines i find it hard to understand how you can dismiss the thousands of dead spanish sailors who died there as bad luck ie "the weather"

ahaha @ the english pride in this thread! so cute and hugable <3

It may well be unfashionable to have some national pride but some of us are still proud of our national heritage, its not our fault you have nothing to be proud of as a nation :p

This is an English forum by and large anyway, so what do you expect. Seen any other nationalities flags in the emoticons ? I rest my case.

what is your case?

Probably something along the lines of Non British people coming onto a British forum for a British server and then complaining (or attempting to take the piss) when people discuss their history. I am sure if you were so inclined you could find a nice Esperanto forum to compare European historical failures in :p

Anyway, aren't you ginger? wouldn't that imply you were possibly of Celtic origin? Irish/British :p

cept for the fact that while yes this forum is based on the language English it is no-where a british forum - and for the fact that while yes the servers language was English it was not a British server. it was a European server where the language spoken was English. Im sure that there was more non British users than British users of pryd/excal (and for the fact that this is not the dyvet cluster off-topic but DAoC general off-topic which has no server specifics if i understand correctly). most wasnt discussing history though in case you didnt see... they were being national pricks which is something i dont like so i state what i feel.

Well, if being proud of my country's history makes me a prick in your eyes, I can live with that.

yeah but thanks to most of the Caribbean ports being ours, or under our control the "British" privateers where by far the most successful and best equipped.

...wow.. lol.

...show's a such a 'small' comment can upset many english people.
It was not my meaning to upset you lol, but it does show people still learn history one way, and not from two ways..

just getting tired of the tedious and seemingly fotm anti english/british atitude that seems to be so prevalent on these forums.
we could boast until you were sick of it :) but humility is a very typical english trait..
