I played the beta a fair bit.

The ship combat and PvP rocks, realy well done, and quite tactical.

Everything else feals bolted on, the ship boarding, character avatars ect. It may be ace in a few months

Played BETA for a week, found the PvP in ships OK, but the rest real clunky, and couldnt see myself being entertained by it for more than a month, much like Hellgate: London.

Only thing I can say is, it still needed a lot of work before going public.

Nope, the British empire had a greater landmass. Oh and Khan's empire was largely comprised of a barren north east asia.

pretty selfexplanatory imo. on the otherhand the starter ship is good until lvl 10 or so and you can sink almost all npc ships with abit of tacitcs and luck.

But as Whoodoo said, imo its not even close to be ready for release yet

It certainly a very good tactic but to base the opinon the Dutch navy was better than the British Empire's Navy on the fact that you destroyed a few of our ships when they were laid up in docks is abit silly.

Lol you Dutchies beat our navy because we were all parked up at a dock, if you class that as a win then rofl tbh! But yes yes I know about the Anglo-Dutch sea wars.

As for the 'Netherlands reigned supreme at sea' comment well for a period that was pretty much true, however by 1710 the British had the largest Navy in the world and that was mainly down to the losses which we suffered in the Anglo-Dutch sea wars of the late 17th century. Within 20 years we had built up our navy to the point where it was the envy of the whole world. Our merchant trade fleet was also expanding rapidly due the expanding empire and wealth being generated in India. Then of couse comes the Napoleonic era which is the point in history where the phrase 'Britannia rules the waves' comes into existance. We were globally the dominant Navy as Napoleon found out to his cost on many occasions, all over the world we pillaged the French fleet and won numerous battles. Our navy was the single reason why Napoleon was unable to invade the British isles, he just didn't have the navy strong enough and even with allies he still couldn't get the job done.

We Brits are rightly proud of our navy, they have held numerous potential invaders at bay for over 500 years whilst helping to extend our national influence around the world. Of course the world is a very different place these days and our country is not the leading light as it once was be we are still very proud of our naval history and have every right to be.

From 1692 the Dutch navy was placed under the command of the Royal Navy's admirals (though not incorporated into it) by order of William III following the Glorious Revolution.

Your navy still existed as an individual fleet with its own commanders and could be used tasked at the request of the Dutch goverment at time for patrols etc. They had Dutch crews and performed Dutch missions as well as missions for the British.

If they had been incorporated it would have effectively been the end of the Dutch navy in all but name, all orders would have been issued through London at the Admiralty and the Dutch goverment would have had little or no power over the incorporated units. More than likely the crews would have transitioned to British crews as well.

Placing under the command of the British just made the Dutch navy more effective, they had access to better intelligence and they were able to fight as part of an allied fleet. Much like what happens now with British troops being under the command of American generals in Iraq and also what happened in the second world war with the French/Polish and soldiers from many commonwealth nations taking thier orders from the British high command.
