I also fear that racial tensions in europe are as a whole rising, and it does seem that Islam could become the next Jews in Germany scenario, the BNP and many far right groups are already advertising their distaste for it, and alot of people do see Muslims as a Danger to their way of life, violent and threatening. A dangerous perception.

All its going to take is several more attacks across europe of suicide bombers or just one Beslam and I can see a massive shift in feelings, the moderate voices will be drowned out across europe and the extremists will have their views taken more seriously, Yes there are alot of Muslims in some countries in europe but people are tired of hearing that the moderate muslims are not to blame. When it comes down to it, people have a low tolerance for seprating groups, and would just as likely be happy to lump them all together.

Stop scaremongering about the rise of nationalist governments, the chance of one "sweeping to power" in a bicameral parliament is virtually zero.

History shows that xenophobia does not cause people to turn to nationalism; it is a poor economy, unemployment, lack of decent public services, widespread corruption in government that does it.

Most of western Europe does not suffer from this, and too many voters are level headed enough not to vote for someone who will probably sod up the economy just so they can get rid of a few foreigners.

In addition, historically nationalism has been a variant on extreme socialism, as it invariably turns into an authoritarian government who need state control to assume absolute power. With most governments in Europe, even the "left wing" ones, unashamedly supportive of free market capitalism as their main economic policy, it is unlikely one is suddenly going to turn towards a more socialist/communist model.

Immigrant victimization comes as a result of a nationalist government, not the other way round.
